Ogren selected president
The Wa-Nee Drug Awareness Committee met November 14, at Come-N-Dine Restaurant, Wakarusa, with 14 members present Rick Jenkins, representing the nominating committee, recommended that Hugh Ogren be named to fifl the position of vice-president for 1990, and move to president in 1991, and that Gloria Moser be named treasurer. The recommendations were accepted. All members whose first terms expire December 31,1990, have agreed to remain on the committee for their second term. Red Ribbon Campaign expenses totaled SBO, and these were approved for payment. In addition, the committee has decided to advertise in the 1990 yearbook, and has purchased a SSO space. An expense of $390 for expenses incurred by Wa-Nee Middle Schools and North Wood High School for convocations presented by Campus Life, was approved for payment. The convocations were on the subjects of handling peer pressure and building self-esteem. The complete series of 12 programs, “The Power of Choice,” will be purchased, to be used by groups and for individual counseling at North Wood. The cost is $595. Jamie Prenkert, reporting for Students Against Driving Drunk, stated that the Red Ribbon Campaign was successful, with students being involved in a number of ways. The convocation with Bill Wargo was a highlight of the week, with over 300 students attending. Parents interested in becoming involved in the SUDS Program are encouraged to contact Gloria Moser through the school administration office, or any committee member. In an additional report on Red Ribbon Week, it was determined that the committee’s profit from the fund raiser is S7OO. Caryn Hershberger reported that approximately 2260 signatures were collected from the Wa-Nee community, on the drug-free declarations. These are being forwarded to Governor Bayh’s office. A total of 45 persons attended the businessmen’s seminar, and John Elliott reported that the parade was
