Ice cream tasters wanted
Here’s the scoop on a dream job that will have applicants licking their lips. Edy’s Grand Ice Cream has announced that it is accepting applications for ice cream tasters in its Third Annual Assistant Ice Cream Taster Contest. Twenty tasters will be selected nationwide and flown roundtrip to the company’s headquarters in Oakland, California for the one-day tasting binge. Any local winner will be limousined. Their assignment-to taste and evaluate each and every one of the new flavors the company has developed over the last year and choose those that will be marketed in 1990. “We think this is a great way to find out what flavors our customers want,” says the company’s official taster, John Harrison. “In the past two years, our Assistant Ice Cream Tasters have selected several flavors that were big hits the minute they were introduced.” - Potential assistant tasters must love ice cream with a passion, according to Harrison, and should consume more than the national average per capita of 15.3 quarts

To apply, send a letter (150 words or less) explaining why you would make a “grand” taster to: Ice Cream Taster, Edy’s Grand Ice Cream, P.O. Box 1188, Lafayette, California 94549-1188. Applications will be judged on creativity. Entries must be received by August 18, and winners will be notified by August 31. Tasters of all ages are eligible; however, children 12 and under Should indicate age in order jo be considered for a special children’s category. Winners will receive round-trip flights to the company’s ice cream headquarters in Oakland, California, on September 14, a two-night stay at the Claremont Resort Hotel, and a full day of ice cream lasting on Friday, September 15, capped off with a hosted dinner on San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf...with ice cream for dessert, of course. Harrison added that the tasteful 20 will also be awarded their weight in ice cream (in gift certificates to take home). However, it hasn’t yet been determined if winners will be weighed in before or after their tasting binge!
