Wagon Wheel probes interest in Community Theatre
The Board of Governors of the Wagon Wheel Playhouse would like to know, "Are you interested in a community theatre?” On several occasions, members of our board have been approached about this concept. We believe there may be sufficient interest to begin this type of community program. Mrs. Betty Rosentrater, • Nappanee, who has returned to her second grajde teaching position at South Elementary School, recently received recognition for her service as a Peace Corps volunteer. Betty received a certificate of appreciation and letter of thanks from Loret Miller Ruppe, Director, Peace Corps, and President Ronald Reagan, in recognition of her dedicated service and outstanding contributions toward world peace and friendship, while serving in Honduras. The letter follows: “Dear Returned Peace Corps Volunteer: Welcome home! I hope that you found your Peace Corps experience to be both enjoyable and rewarding. “On behalf of President Reagan and myself, I would like to present you with the enclosed certificate as a small token of our appreciation for your service as a volunteer. Engine Assoc, has new officers
The St. Joe Valley Old Engine Association held the first meeting of the new year, Sunday afternoon, January 19, 'at the Jones, Michigan Community Hall. Officers for 1986 were introduced. They are: president, Jim Susemihl, Three Rivers, Michigan; vicepresident, Roger Wagner, Constantine, Michigan; recording secretary, George Baumeister, Burr Oak, Michigan; membership secretary, Barb Wagner, Constantine; treasurer, Hubert Wagner, Constantine; board of directors-Jim Riley, Union; Charlie Forster, Jones; Warren Bachtel, White Pigeon; Orrin Bowlby and Charles Wagner, Constantine. Guests were present from the Kalamazoo Valley Antique Engine and Machinery Club, and the Northeast Indiana Steam and Gas Association. Discussion was held on the annual shows and the plans for improvements. A committee was appointed from the three clubs, to make plans for the annual “Swap Meet”, to be held May 3-4, at the Boot Hill Ranch, one and one-half miles east of Jones, on Bair Lake Road. Mrs. Daisy Wagner, Constantine, has agreed to head the advertising committee for the year, and Ann Susemihl will take care of radio publicity. t Show dates are set for August 1-3. Members were reminded that the next meeting will be held Sunday afternoon, February 16, at 2:30, at the Jones Hall. It will be the annual bake sale-arts and crafts auction. International week observed Glimpses of the Far East, Middle East, Europe, Africa, India, the Caribbean and Central and South America are highlighting International Student Week at Goshen College, January 26-February 1. Sponsored by the International Student Club, the week features poetry readings, dance performances, special speakers, an international meal and a “World Cup” soccer tournament, played by Goshen College students. International Student Week continues today (Wednesday) at 9a.m., with “International Students Speak”, in the church-chapel. The convocation features students Jonathan Lorenc, from Ireland; Yang Lin, from the People’s Republic of China, and Saul Murcia, from Colombia. Graham Cyster, a South African minister, will deliver the chapel address Thursday, January 30. That same evening, international students will help to prepare a meal featuring dishes from a variety of countries. The meal will be served to students and interested members of the Goshen community, in the college dining hall, from 5:30-6:30p.m. Charges for community members are $4.45 plus tax for adults. Children under 12, half price. On Friday, Richard Allfrey, president of the International Club, from England, will join Indonesian student Mark Krisetya, to offer different perspectives on life in a new oountry, in “Comparing Cultures.” They will speak in convocation at 9a.m., in the church-chapel. On Sunday, students joined in forming soccer teams named for countries represented by international students. They played against each other in a tournament leading up to the “World Cup” championship in the evening. Goshen College enjoys the cultural heritage of approximately 50 students from 29 different countries.

Announce auditions for Playhouse
Enchanted Hills Playhouse, Syracuse, has announced auditions for actors (must act, sing and move well), interns, instrumentalists, costume designer, scenic designertechnical director, stage manager, choreographer, lighting-props designer, assistant technical director and box office manager. Instrumental positions include trumpet, trombone, reed doubler, percussion, electric bass, French horn, keyboards, banjo and guitar. All positions are salaried. The 1986 season opens June 11, and closes August 31. The summer season includes “The Rainmaker”, “Annie, Get Your Gun”, “Dames at Dea" (tap dancers needed), “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Marne”, “Guys and Dolls” and “Barefoot in the Park”. The professional non equity theatre is located on Lake Wawasee. Resumes and applications are also being accepted for the Enchanted Hills Playhouse Children’s Theatre Company. Available positions include: Children’s Theatre director, assistant director-musical director and four actors. The Children’s Theatre performance season runs from mid-May to mid-August. All positions are salaried. Auditions are held on a first-come, first-serve basis; no appointment necessary. Prepare one musical selection of your choice. Be prepared to move. Any readings will be front scripts of the season’s shows. Pictures and resumes are required. Bring music in your own key, an accompanist will be provided, but will not transpose. Young people are needed for the 1986 season. Four young people who are able to sing are needed in “Annie Get Your Gun”: Little Jake. 8 years old; Nellie, 9 years; Jessie, 13, and Minnie, 15. One young man who sings very well is needed for “Marne”: Patrick Dennis, about 10. Ages for all children are approximate. Singles dance, scheduled All singles, ages 18-40, are invited to attend a Valentine’s Dance, to be held at the upper hall of the Goshen Moose Lodge, February 1, at Bp.m. The music will be Jim Strauss, of the group, “The Entertainers.” Mr, Strauss has started a weekly singles, dance in the Toledo area, and his well-known popularity has gained him a high following in this area.
