Married 40 years
Mr. and Mrs. James F. Thomas, 249 N. Oakland, Nappanee, will be honored at a 40th anniversary open house, to be held Sunday, February 2, from 2-5p.m., at the Tower Federal building, 202 W. Market St., Nappanee. The event will be hosted by their children and their spouses: Ray and Tracy Stutzman, and Jim and Connie Thomas, and their two grandchildren, Candy and Shawn Thomas. Thomas married the former Maxine Joy Zlllmer, February 2, 1946, at the United Brethren parsonage in Syracuse. The wedding was performed by the Rev. J. W. Jones. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend the open house, and share memories and refreshments with the family: Mr. and Mrs. Thomas consider the love of their family and friends a precious gift, and request no other.

Nappanee’s site, located at Church of the Brethren, Mack Drive, is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Activities at the site include table games and puzzles, a Tuesday Bible study, and other activities as announced. Club notes LADY LIONS The Nappanee Lady Lions will meet Tuesday, February 4, at 7:30p.m., with Gloria Mason as the hostess, and Glenda Sheets as cohostess. Roll call will be .a joke or a poem, and the program will be an auction of “white elephant” or food items. HOME ECHOES The Nappanee Home Echoes Extension Club met at the home of Rowena Sharkey for the January meeting. Madlin Culp, president, opened the meeting with devotions. Refreshments were served to the nine members present. Beverly Slagle, vice-president, presented information from the county extension office, for programs coming in the new year.

Roll up lengthwise, tie with string. Brown in oil; pour sherry over meat. Cover and simmer 15-20 minutes; remove to warm platter. Add sour cream and remaining olives to pan; heat gently. There will be a program planning session on February 17, at which all county vice-presidents will make decisions on upcoming lessons. Wavelene Yoder presented the lesson, “How to Listen”. She told members how to lower blood pressure by listening instead of talking all the time. An election of officers was held, with new officers taking their posts July 1986. Results are as follows: Beverly Slagle, president; Georgia Marvel, vice-president; Geneva Moore, secretary-treasurer, and Madlin Culp, assistant secretarytreasurer and reporter. Discussion on the country of Spain, which will be the country the club represents at the International Tasting Fete, April 14, was held. Recipes are to be turned in by the February Council Meeting. Bernice Byers gave a citizenship report, and Georgia Marvel presented the club song of the month. The February meeting will be held February 11, at 1:30p.m., at the home of Wavelene Yoder, 401 N. Summit St. The Welcome Neighbors Club will be special guests.

Ray Bodley High School in 1983, and from Vincennes University in 1985. He is currently attending Oswego State, Oswego, New York. They will be married August 16, at the Mt. Tabor Church of God. Kiwanibull... Harold Holier offered the invocational at Monday’s meeting of the Noon Kiwanis Club, while Larry Wagner registered the guests. Major Terry Snyder, of the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, presented a program on “The Perils of Driving Under the Influence.” Members are reminded of the “free lunch’” offer. Attend the weekly meetings-don’t miss Kiwanis activities. Self-help group formed Child Sexual Abuse Self-Help Group, for families and individuals who have experienced child sexual abuse, be it offender or offended, is available in this area.
