’200,000 damage in Beer & Slabaugh fire

A fire at Beer and Slabaugh, Inc., US 6E, resulted in extensive damage. The damage occured on December 28, at 2:25 p.m. An 80’ X 120’ storage shed and paint shop at the location was fully involved when Nappanee'firemen arrived on the scene. The fire was brought under control in two hours, however firemen remained on the scene for a total of three hours and twenty minutes. Owner Harlan Beer estimated the damage to exceed $200,000. According to the fire report, an employee stated that the oil furnace blew up, causing the fire.
