Don Pletcher, president of Mallard Coach Company, Inc., Nappanee, 'lndiana, has recently announced the acquisition of Overland Industries, of Orange, California. Overland is well-known in the west coast market for the manufacturing of Class A motorhomes According to Pletcher, Overland will continue to produce motorhomes as a whollyowned subsidiary of Mallard
Hazardous wastes topic of survey
The Elkhart County Health Department, as part of its Groundwater Protection Program, has recently reviewed the results of a voluntary industrial survey which was conducted throughout the summer and early fall of this year. This survey included twenty percent of all of the listed manufacturers in Elkhart County. The survey did not include service industries or other non-manufacturing commercial facilities. The survey received the endorsement of the Elkhart, Goshen, Nappanee and Wakarusa Chambers of Commerce. The primary purpose of the survey was to collect data to indicate the extent to which local industry is in compliance with state and federal regulations governing hazardous materials and hazardous wastes. Secondly, the survey afforded an opportunity for industrial representives to ask questions and receive guidance concerning any actions necessary to bring current practices into compliance. Data from the survey will help identify which types of industries use hazardous materials and generate hazardous wastes It will also help characterize

Survey results will help identify the greatest threats to groundwater quality and allow the Health Department to prioritize its protective activities. The survey results will become an integral part of a local Groundwater Protection Policy Plan. When developed, this plan will specifically address hazardous material-hazardous waste handling practices and further define the role of Elkhart County Health Depart ment in insuring hazardous substances are handled in such a way as toprevent groundwater contamination.

Ms. Bell has successfully completed the Blood Pressure Measurement Certification Course, which is a requirement for all Program Staff and volunteers who do blood pressure screening. Dunn announces purchase of Coppes
Mr James Dunn, president of Nappanee Investment Group, Inc., of Nappanee, Indiana, announced the purchase of the assets of Coppes. Inc., of Nappanee, Indiana The new company will operate under the name of Coppes-Napanee Company using the familiar dutch girl trademark Mr Dunn stated that changes in the product are not anticipated at this time. Management realignment is being made to best utilize the new managers experience and to give redirection to retained managers Changes in the style and quality of Coppes-Nappanee cabinets and bath vanities are not planned at this time due to the exceptionally high quality standards and retail acceptance of Coppes products Coppes-Napanee products have Claims up due to shutdowns Holiday shutdowns edged Indiana's unemployment insurance claims up to 59,671, an increase of 3.909 over the previous week's total of 55,762. the Indiana Employment Security Division reported lor the same week a year ago. claims totaled 67,200 Division director Clarence D Broadus said initial claims increased in 32 of 44 local offices with a significant increase overall. Jim Dunn reviews the plans of streamlining the present 240,000 square foot Coppes-Napanee plant. Dunn is the president of the company, recently purchased by Nappanee Investment GroOp, Inc. Plans call for reducing the present manufacturing area to 70,000 square feet, hopefully to bring more efficiency to the operation. Dunn stated that there are plans tqJease the remaining space. "Dealer response to our new program has been favorable and business is exceeding expectations. We are planning on, within the next 6-12 months, new lines that will enable us to Increase employment In the area. I’m glad we’re a part of the Nappanee community.
