Murphy-Ward low Norman and Yvonne Murphy, Nappanee, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Cynthia, to Timothy Wardlow, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Collins, Houston, Mississippi, formerly of Nappanee. Miss Murphy graduated from North Wood High School in 1980. and is employed by Tower Federal Savings and Loan; Nappanee. Her fiance is a 1976 graduate of North Wood, and is employed by Fairmont Homes, Nappanee. An October 19, wedding is planned at Brown County State Park, Nashville, Indiana.

Mr Schlabach graduated from Rural Special High School in Arkansas. and the Sparton School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is self-employed as a masonry contractor. Her fiance graduated from Mishawaka High School, and works at Williams Home Center, South Bend. They are planning a December 7 wedding, at the North Main Street Mennonite Church, Nappanee.

Etsinger-Eby Mr and Mrs Bud Etsinger, Sr., of New Paris, are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jacqueline Sue, to Kevin E. Eby, son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Eby, Wakarusa Both are graduates of North Wood High School. Jackie will graduate from Marion College, Marion, in 1986 with an associate degree in science. She plans on being a medical laboratory technician. Kevin is attending Purdue University, majoring in electrical engineering. A July 12 wedding is being planned in the Wakarusa Missionary Church.

Seniors invited for i -i activities, hot lunches

The following schedule of meals and activities is announced by REAL Services, sponsors of the program. Nappanee’s site, located at Church of the Brethren, Mack Drive, is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Bingo will be held Monday, October 7. Blood Pressure Day will be Wednesday, October 9. Activities at the site include table games and puzzles, a Tuesday Bible study, and other activities as announced. Persons are asked to call the site one day in advance to make reservations for the meals, (773-2228). There is no set charge- each person is asked to pay just what he feels he can afford. GOLDEN APPLE UPSIDE-DOWN COFFEE CAKE 3 med. golden delicious apples '/n cup butter or margarine 3 /t cup sugar 2 eggs 2 T. lemon juice 11. grated lemon peel 2 cups flour 21. baking powder '/z t. salt l /z cup milk Core and slice one apple. Arrange slices in bottom of well-greased 9inch tube pan. Pare, core and finely chop remaining apples to measure l'/ 2 cups. Cream butter and sugar until light. Beat in eggs, lemon juice and peel. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Fold in chopped apples. Spoon batter over apples slices in pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes, or until wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn onto serving plate. Serve warm or cooled. Makes 8 servings. The following recipe was one of the winners in the recent Bonneyville Mill celebration contest. It Is from the kitchen of Kathy Resler. APPLE-NUT CAKE 4 cups raw diced apples 2 cups sugar Combine and let stand one hour. Add: 1 cup oil 2 eggs 21. vanilla 1 cup chopped nuts 3 cups flour 21. soda '/z t. salt 1 cup raisins Mix well. Bake in greased floured 8-inch pans (2). Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees. While hot, dust with confectioners sugar. Wednesday, October 9-Apricot juice, sliced pot roast, buttered parsley potatoes, frozen peas and onions, Kaiser roll with margarine, cranapple sauce, milk, tea, or coffee. Thursday, October 10-Assorted juice, tuna and noodle casserole with cheese topping, spinach salad with dressing, wheat bread with margarine, fresh fruit, milk, tea, or coffee.

>/ 4 cup margarine l>/ 3 cup firmly-packed light brown sugar legg 1 large tart apple, finely chopped (about l'/4 cup) Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease cookie sheets. Combine flours, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt in a small bowl. In a large bowl, combine butter, margarine and brown sugar; beat until smooth and creamy. Beat in egg ** Blend flour mixture into butter mixture until dry ingredients are completely mixed in. Stir in apples and raisins. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons, about 2” apart, on greased cookie sheets. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes, until lightly browned. Cool cookies on wire rack and top each with Vs teaspoon lemon glaze while still warm. Cool completely. LEMON GLAZE: Combine 1 cup confectioners sugar, 2 T. lemon juice, I T. butter (softened) and l T. hot water. Beat together until smooth. Makes 'k cup. Attention all tea lovers! There’s no need to leave the pleasures of a tasting party to wine connoisseurs. Why not enjoy the palate-pleasing experience of tea tasting? It offers the opportunity to taste and distinguish between fine blends, as well as the chance to show off your prettiest teapots. When the tasting is over, reward participants with this warming tea treat. It’s a cozy end to a tasteful experience. AUTUMN APPLE TEA 3 cups apple juice, heated to boiling 6 flo-through tea bags V 4 cup brown sugar Va cup brandy (optional) l /z t. vanilla extract In teapot, pour hot juice over tea bags; cover and brew five minutes. Remove tea bags; stir in remaining ingredients. Garnish, if desired, with clove-studded apple slices. Makes about four servings. Remember-serve a plain cracker or some sort of subtly-flavored bread to clear palates in between teas. Scones are a popular choice, because they are mildly flavored as w?ll as thirst-provoking. Try to keep the selection of teas to 4-5. Rotary report Guests at last Wednesday’s meeting of the Nappanee Rotary Club; were Phil Neff and Ed Andrews, Goshen; and Earl Nqptmaker. Jim Andrews, head football coach at North Wood, presented the program, outling the football program at North Wood. Rotary meals will be offered Wednesday, October 23. Tickets will be available from Rotarians.

Silver Anniversary Stan and Rita Thomas, 604 Miami Drive, Nappanee, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on September 6. They are the parents of two daughters; Brenda and Tom Hawkins, Bremen, and Betsy and Jeff Stankovich, North Chicago. The Thomases also have three grandchildren.

Floyd and Jane Kauffman, Nappanee, will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house Sunday, October 6 from 2-4:30 p.m., in the fellowship room of the North Main Mennonite Church (west entrance). Floyd, a native of Mlddlebury, and Jane (Jennie) Sweigart of Elkhart, a native of Perrton, Texas, were married October 6, 1935 In Elkhart by the Rev. John Gingrich. Floyd is a retired Kroger store manager from Pierceton and Nappanee. Mrs. Kauffman In a semi-retired nurse. They have two children: Judy Robison, Nappanee; and Dennis, Florida. The couple has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They request no gifts.
