Record setter ~ Coach Fred Myers watches ajs Tad Hockert performs in recent gymnastics action for NorthWobd. Hockert placed second in AllAround last week against Jimtown with a score of 6.47. He was a member of the Parallel Bar team which set anew school record of 21.7. He placed second on Rings, third on Pommel Horse and Parallel Bars, and fourth on Floor Exercise and High Bar.

Gymnasts set records
The North Wood boys gymnastics team continued its winning ways establishing two new school records .while bringing its season record to 4-1. The rapidly improving gymnasts established anew school record of 127 97 to Jimtown’s 96.25 for their fourth win of the season. The Parallel Bar team of Tim Stamper. Don Mumaw and Tad Hockert also established anew school record of 21.7 breaking the old record set of 21.3 last year. Coach Fred Myers commented that the team deserves a lot of credit for what it has accomplished this year but that it is just getting started. Girl gymnasts open
The North Wood girls gymnastics team opened up its season with a dual meet against the Jimtown Jimmies last Wednesday. The Panthers claimed victories in the Beginning, Intermediate and Optional levels of competition. North Wood's Beginning team, composed of three freshmen, two sophomores and two juniors, edged by Jimtown with a score of 51.35 to 50’3. High scorer for the Beginning competition was Jimtown's Tammy Yoder with a 6.74 in the vauling competition. Second high went to North Wood's Jill Toney with a 6.25 on uneven bars. Four sophomores and two juniors comprise the Intermediate team which posted a score of 65.85 to Jimtown's 0 by forfeit. Scoring 65.85 this early in the season is definitely an indication of strength

The Optional team is made up of two freshmen andxine senior which leaves little room for injury or illness. As luck would have it. Julie Corwin, one of the Optional gymnasts, was ill and unable to compete. But with strong .performances by Lori Parks and Amy Price. NorthW r ood was able to post a victory over their foes scoring 54.75 to 51.7 High score is credited to Lori Parks w ith an 8 8 on uneven bars. They have the potential to finish high in the sectional. but that will depend on how well this young team puts things together. The girls' remaining meets are as follows:. Tuesday, Fet>. 3. Elkhart Memoiral and Wawasee at Elkhart Memorial; Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Elkhart Central; Thursday, Feb. 12, Concord and Plymouth at Concord; Thursday, Feb. 19. Tippecanoe Valley at home; Thursday. Feb. 26, at West Noble. The sectional is Tuesday. March 10 followed by the regional Friday. March 20 and the state finals Saturday, March 28.
