Larry Swank is CCIM designate
Larry Swank, president of Swank and Heckaman Realty, recently successfully completed all the required courses for candidacy as a “Certified Commercial Investment Manager,” better known as the CCIM designation. The last of six week-long’courses involved “Principles and Techniques of Effective Communition.” With the completion of these courses, Swank is now able to counsel potential investors about various alternatives available to any investor by comparing those investments to see the greatest potential return based on the initial investment Presently there are fewer than 1,000 CCIM designates in the United States.

Bowen elected to Hook Drugs board Gov. Otis R. Bowen, M.D. and Freda L. Lockhart, president of CleverleyLockhart Cadillac, Inc., Indianapolis, have been elected to the board of directors of Hook Drugs, Inc. The announcement was made by Norman P. Reeves, board chairman of the 257 store chain corporation that operates drug stores in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. Gov. Bowen, who is the first Indiana governor to have served two consecutive terms since 1851, will leave office Jan. 12. jjle will continue to make his residence in Indianapolis, where he will join the faculty of his alma mater, the Indiana University School of Medicine. Gov. Bowen is a native of Bremen and has served on many national governmental boards and commissions, including chairman each of the National Governors’ Conference, the Midwest Governor’s Conference and the National Republican Governors Association. In 1973 he was honored by the American Medical Association with its first Benjamin Rush Award for “outstanding public service and exemplorary citizenship”. Lockhart, who is a native of Welch, West Virginia, is Hook’s first woman director. She has been in the automobile business for 34 years and has owned and operated the Indianapolis franchise since 1973. She attended Duke University and is also a director of American United Life Insurance Company and the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce. She is former president of the Indianapolis Auto Dealers Association and was awarded the TIME MAGAZINE Dealer Quality Award in 1979. Besides drug stores, Hook’s operates five convalescent aids centers, seven convenience food markets and The H. Lieber photographic services division.

Howard's sold James and Ruth Wickizer took over Jan. 1 as the new owners of Howard’s Drive-In on East Market Street. The Wickizers have lived in Nappanee for the past seven years and have operated the concession at the New Paris Speedway for the past 10 years. The only change planned ly the new owners is the possible addition of lish to the menu.. Otherwise, they plan, as James said, to “run what people want." (AN photo)
