Cont. from pg. 1 budget. Mayor John Mellinger read a letter from Gordon (Short) McCormick, commending Nappanee policeman Bruce Thornton, and the Nappanee Fire Department, for their quick response to a fire reported by Thornton. The fire was confined to a truck parked near McCormick’s, but, according to McCormick, if Thornton hadn’t been alert enough to spot the fire and turn in the alarm, there could have been considerable damage. McCormick also reported that he was glad to see the “Big Red Mack” truck at the scene. Council members received a letter from the Nappanee City Plan Commission. The letter read as follows: At a properly advertised public hearing held Tuesday, October 9, 1979, the Nappanee City Plan Commission voted to recommend to City Council that Lots 10, 11 and 12 and 13 of Hamshef's Ist Amended Addition be changed from R 2 to 83. These lots are immediately behind Wise Decorating Shoppe and Warehouse on the south side of East Walnut St. Peter Adams, councilman, who also serves as a member of the Plan Commission, reported that the request was made by Larry Wagner, who owns the property. Wagner is looking ahead to the possibility of expanding his business, and wanted to be sure the property was zoned properly. that there were residents present at the meeting, who were not opposed to the change, but just wanted to know what was going on. Council business included the passage on second and third reading of Ordinance No. 786, the S&H Development Revenue bonds and documents; on second reading of Ordinance No. 787, authorizing the sale of the water well site on S.
