—Student handbooks at each individual school were approved. —Superintendent William Dorsey presented a letter he has sent to the State Highway Department expressing concern over a proposed route for the US 20 bypass through the northern end of the Wa-Nee district. (That letter is printed on the editorial page this week.) —Highlights of the recent North Wood High School Athletic Council meeting were reviewed. Plans for utilization of the new athletic facilities were discussed. ~ —Board members were asked to recommend names of parents willing to serve on the 1979-80 North Wood High School Parent Advisory Council. —Approval was granted for North Wood guidance chairman Ron Fields to serve on a North Central Evaluation Team at Martinsville November 27-30. —Conference leave requests were granted for North Wood principal Plan commission schedules hearing A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9 at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Center on a rezoning request from Wise Furniture Warehouse The hearing was set as the city plan commission considered two rezoning requests The Wise request is to rezone four lots behind the warehouse on East Market from the alley behind the structure north to Walnut Street. Wise requests a change from R-2 (residential) to B-3 (business). Half the warehouse is presently zoned B-3 with the other half zoned R-2. The rezoning is to provide more space for the warehouse. The commission denied a request by Susie Loutz to convert a garage at the corner of Elm and Broad streets to a one-chair beauty salon. A rezoning from R-l (residential) to B-l (business) was requested.

Police log ... A rural Syracuse man was injured in an accident last Friday at 4:07 p.m. in front of Wolfberg’s Department Store at 154 W. Market St. Harold Nicolai, 75, Rt. 3, Wawasee Heights, Syracuse, was treated at the North Wood Professional Building for lacerations to the elbow after being struck by a car driven by Cynthia K_ Yoder, Bremen. Yoder told police that she was backing her car up to get out of aparking space and did not see Nicolai.. Witnesses stated that Nicolai stepped off the curb and the Yoder vehicle had no time to stop to avoid the accident. Court news The following cases have been handled through the Nappanee City Court. Frank DeCriscio, 57, Kendallville, charged with disregarding all automatic signal, paid total fine and costs of $56. Curtis Lane, Nappanee, charged with public intoxication, 30-day sentence suspended, paid total fine and costs of $53. David Nissley, Topeka, charged with driving while intoxicated, paid total fine and costs of $56. Michael Davis, Walkerton, charged with stop sign violation, paid total fine and costs of $36. Denton Hoke, Nappanee, charged with having no safety sticker, paid total fine and costs of s4l. Elize Hammel, South Bend, charged with speeding 69 mph in a 55 mph zone; paid total fine and costs of $45. Dennis McCormick, Mishawaka, charged with having no safety sticker, paid total fine and costs of s4l. ' Samuel James, Goshen, charged with speeding 5.6 mph in a 35 mph zone, paid total fine and costs of ssl.
