NIPSCO pointed out that natural gas continues to be the least expense fuel you can buy for home heating purposes in northern Indiana, and that the utility does not realize one cent of profit from these pipeline supply tracking adjustments. Newcomer honored Ralph Newcomer was honored by management and employees at Coppes, Inc. last week, when he retired after 39 years with the company. Pictured are Glenn Rogers, plant superintendent, Velma Keister, Betty Ward Newcomer, Dick Ambler, personnel manager, Marilyn Sassaman and Russ Byrd, foreman. Newcomer, who runs a rip saw in the machine room, received a fishing rod from the company, and a clock radio from fellow employees. He and his wife, Grace, reside at Rl, Nappanee. Newcomer’s hobbies include gardening and fishing.

Employment News Unemployment claims increase to 38,207 The unemployment insurance claims total increased 1,075 last week to 38,207 according to the Indiana Employment Security Division. One year ago the total was 74,370. John F. Coppes, director of the Division, said initial claims rose 141 to 5,430. All regular claims were up 585 to 32,450. Special unemployment assistance claims were up 531 to 5,067, Coppes added.
