by Daryl Climenhaga Summer has come, making its hot presence felt, and with it comes Nappanee Civic Theatre with its second production Service Notes Air Force "DEP" volunteer Airman Debra D. McMillen, 552 W. Walnut St., Nappanee, Indiana, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren J. McMillen of 552 W. Walnut St., Nappanee. Indiana, enlisted in the U S. Air Force's Delayed Enlistment Program today, according to Sergeant A1 Harp, Air Force recruiter, Elkhart, Indiana, here. Airman McMillen, a 1977 graduate of North Wood High School is scheduled for enlistment in the Regular Air Force on July 12, 1977. Upon graduation from the Air Force’s six-week basic training course, she will receive technical training in the Mechanical. She will be earning credits toward a Career Education Certificate through the Community College of the Air Force while attending basic and other Air Force Technical Training Schools.

of 1977, “The Drunkard” or “Down With Demon Drink." This melodrama, as you have seen in past articles, gives us the chance to identify clearly and side with good against evil. We can boo, hiss. Cheerexpress our deepest feelings as we can at no other time. But, “the Drunkard” brings us more than 19th centurv melodrama. Between acts, cast members will be doing vaudeville acts. With the coming of film and television, vaudeville died, but for three nights, June 8, 9 and 10, vaudeville will live again. For three nights we can go back to a simpler time when everyone knew who the villain was and everyone got their fun together from the vaudeville troupes. Such an act is work indeed and requires a strong crew to back it up. This production has this with Marge Fore and Donna Kuhn caring for wardrobe, Roland Heckaman and Eldon Schrock building sets and Laura Stover and Sandy Miner designing the sets. Props are being done by Mary Schrock, Bonnie Hochstetler, June Yoder and Carol Bolyard. Brian Jensen and Gary Geyer are again teaming up on the stage lights and sound, with Mark Hochstetler operating the spot light. Robin Mclntyre, a cast member, has done the posters and the program cover. Jill Stover has done the programs. Daryl Climenhaga has helped with publicity. On the nights of the play and dress rehearsals, those in charge of make up are
crucial. The make-up crew includes Carol Roose, Kate Yoder and Gloria Mason, with Susie Loucks in charge of doing hair. The whole crew performs under Producer Wavy Yoder’s care-come see the results of efforts as the actors take the stage with “The Drunkard” June 8, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. We are reminding the public that these dates are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Senior Citizens are to be guests of the Civic Theatre on dress rehearsal night of June 6 at 7:30 p.m. This is the Civic Theatre’s way of saying “thank you” to those who have supported us over the years. State Fair deadlines near Entry deadlines are drawing near for Special Events, 4-H and open class judging at the 1977 Indiana State Fair to be held August 18 through August 28. All open class exhibitors in AgricultureHorticulture, Livestock, Home and Family Arts and Poultry Departments must have their entries postmarked no later than July 15. All 4-H entries must be received by August 1. Participants in the third annual HunterJumper Show, July 13 through 16 have only until June 15 to submit their entries. Deadline for the Giant Pre-Fair Western Horse Show, August 12 through 17, is July 10. The Entry Department of the Indiana State Fair automatically sends premium books and entry blanks during May to those people who exhibited in either open or 4-H classes during 1975 or 1976. Others who wish to obtain a premium book or entry form for any of the above categories should write to: Entry Department, Administration Building, Indiana State Fairgrounds, Indianapolis, Indiana 46205. V The deadline for Queen, Drill Team, High School Band and Cheerleading contests is July 1 and August 8 for the Ole Fiddlers Contest. Entries for these special events should be mailed to the Special Events Department, Indiana State Fairgrounds. Applications for the Farmers Day Parade and Horseshoe Pitching Contest are available from the Special Events Department and must be mailed to their appropriate committee by August 10 and 9, respectively.

TOPS 866 Tops 866 new leader wins while she loses—May 12, new Tops Leader Jo Holmes was awarded three prizes at the A I M. meeting. She won first place in “best weight lost from December to April;” second place in “most consistent weight loser for 14 weeks;” and third in “county-wide female best loser.” Debbie Prescott also recieved an award at the AI M. meeting—runner-up for “best weight loss in the teen's division.” She received a ribbon. Tops 866 was awarded a wall plaque for the most weight loss, in competition with Chapter 78 in Goshen. At a recent local meeting, Jo Holmes was presented her third charm, after receiving her bracelet, for each ten pound of weight loss lost. Officers from last year were also presented with charms for serving as officers. At the May 10 meeting, Rita Miller and Mae Miller received their first charms for losing their first 10 pounds. At the May 17 meeting, members recorded a total weight loss of seven and a half pounds from 13 members. Rita Miller has graduated from Tops to Kops, by staying at or under her weight goal for 13 weeks. VFW Goshen Post 985 will host the Third District Meeting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Fathers Auxiliary, Sunday, June 5, 2 p.m. President Linnie Davis advises the ladies that Auxiliary members will meet at 305 N. Main St., at the Eagles. The doors will be open at 1:15 p.m Phyllis Stark, publicity chairman. PAST MATRONS The Past Matrons Club will meet Tuesday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m., at the home of Edna Hunsberger, 358 N. Clark St., for their June picnic. Meat and drink will be furnished. Members are to bring a covered dish and their own table service. TOPS 425 Tops 425 members met Tuesday morning in the social room of the First National Bank. 20 members weighed in, recording a total weight loss of 13* 2 pounds. The best loser was Helen Loucks, and she was presented a red rose. The new contest for June was presented by Irene Lemler. The sacrifice for this week is “No SWEETS.”

LAST WEEK we saw the film “Man’s Material Welfare.” This is an excellent film which compared our free enterprise system with communism. The difference is found in ownership of the tools. The economical, protein packed egg can be made into elegant and nutritious meals-in-a-dish for lunch or dinner, such as Eggs ala Flamenca, said to have originated with Spanish gypsiesIt’s a savory dish of eggs, sausage and vegetables baked in a tomato sauce made zesty with Spanish olive oil. Spanish olive oil is used because it adds flavor without danger of food becoming too greasy and it’s so delciate it allows other herbs and spices to blend better EGGSA LAFLAMENCA 2 tablespoons Spanish olive oil 1 large onion, diced 2 cloves of garlic, crushed >2 pound spicy sausage, cut in slices teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon chopped parsley 2 whole pimientos, diced I can (16 oz.) tomatoes with liquid 1 cup cooked peas 8 cooked asparagus spears 8 eggs Heat oil in skillet. Add onion and garlic and saute until soft but not brown; add sausage and cook until lightly browned. Add salt, parsley and pimientos; cook about 2 minutes. Add contents of can of tomatoes, cutting up with knife. Cover and simmer about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add peas and asparagus. When sauce is hot, spoon into four individual ramekins or shallow casserole. Break eggs into sauce. Bake at 400 degrees just until eggs are set, about 15 minutes. Serve at once. Makes 4 servings.
