Wakarusa girl twirler at BSU Chris Bontrager of Wakarusa, Indiana has been chosen as one of three featured twirlers with the Ball State University Marching Show Band in Muncie, In. The University Band ‘‘The Pride of MidAmerica” is directed by T. Roger McConnell. The eighteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bontrager is a freshman at Ball State. Chris has been twirling for 11 years and has accumulated over 150 trophies and awards. She has placed high in both State and National competitions. Chris studies with U.S.T.A. teacher and judge, Tudy Smith of Sharpsville, Indiana and has studied with Selita Sue Smith former Golden Girl of Purdue University. The most rewarding aspect of baton twirling for Chris was twirling with the North Wood High School marching band as the feature twirler for four years. Last summer Chris received the honor of being chosen as a twirler with the Musical Friendship Band. Under the direction of Mrs. Gladys Wright, the band toured Mexico for one month giving concerts as gestures of friendship.

Chris Bontrager This summer Chris taught baton twirling classes at Taylor University Girls Camp where she was also a counselor. Chris’ practice centers around 1,2, and 3 baton, 1 and 2 fire, and 1 and 2 knives.
