United Way committee plans
"Week of the Young. Child"
The Elkhart County Community Coordinated Child Care Committee, a standing committee of the Human Services Planning Division (HSPD) of the United Way of Elkhart County announced today the “WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD”, March 31st through April 6th. The week is the time to emphasize the total child through different types of activities each day stressing the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual development of the child. Many special activities and events have been planned for children ages 3-6 and their parents to do together Most area theaters will be showing family type movies. A special booth and activity display will be set up the entire week at the Concord

Mall to distribute information as to where you can get help for your child, where to go on a special outing, etc. A group of Goshen College students will be at the Mall at scheduled times, directing activities with young people while their parents watch on. Literature from family service agencies and other offices will be available. Film strips will be shown and Story Time will take place the last three days of the week. OES Nappanee Chapter 367, Order of the Eastern Star, will have open Installation for the incoming officers on Saturday, March 30 at the Nappanee Masonic Temple. The ceremony will start at 8 p.m. Mrs. Robert Allen will be installed as the Worthy Matron and Richard Sheets will be the new Worthy Patron of the chapter. Other elected officers to be installed are Mr. and Mrs. Walter Reidenbach as associate patron and matron, Mrs. Carl W. Yoder as secretary; Mrs. Geneva Moore as treasurer; Miss Marla Flowers as conductress; and Mrs, Robert McLean as associate conductress. Appointed officers to be installed are Mrs. Dale Truex, chaplain; Mrs. Don C. Miller, marshal; Mrs. Ellis Hunsberger, organist; Mrs. Richard Sheets, Adah; Mrs. Mildred Hoffer, Ruth; Mrs. Fred Jensen, Esther; Mrs. Francis Olson, Martha; and Mrs. Devon Hossler, Electa. Mrs. Ralph Blake and Mrs. Ronald Ringenberg will be installed as warder and sentinel. Mrs. Francis Olson and Mr. James Rock, retiring Matron and Patron will welcome the guests and introduce the installing officers. Installing matron will be Mrs. Ralph Blake and installing patron will be Mr. David Widmoyer. They will be assisted by Mrs. Ethel Walters, marshal; Mr. Devon Hossler, chaplain; Mrs. Fred Speicher, secretary; Mrs. Russel Bolyard, organist; and Mrs. Robert McLean and Mr. Devon Hossler, soloists. The Past Matron’s Club will be in charge of the reception in the dining room following the installation. Friends and members are invited to attend the installation and reception following. LADY LIONS Nappanee’s Lady Lions will visit the Triton Planetarium on April 2, meeting at Gloria Mason's home at 7 p.m., and going as a group to Bourbon. Eleanor Armold is Mrs. Mason's co-hostess. Roll call will be answered by members giving their Zodiac signs. LYCEUM CLUB The Lyceum Club will meet April 3 with hostess Edna Hunsberger. Roll call will be "vacation ideas" and the program, a biography of Marie Curie, will be presented by Violet Swihart. DEMOCRAT CLUB The Nappanee Democrat Club met Tuesday. March 19 at the St. Joseph Valley Bank social room. Election of officers was held, with new officers as follows: President. Bill Best; vice-president, Mary Jo Michael; secretary, Peg Stillson and treasurer, John Mellinger. VFW AUXILIARY The ladies auxiliary of the VFW Post 6638 met Wednesday evening at the post home with seven officers answering roll call Mrs. Alice Dumph; president, presided. Lorraine Stutzman acted as Conductress pro-tem and Kitty Fink as Guard pro-tem. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Communications and thank you's were read by the secretary, June Silvers. Members were reminded of Third District meeting, Sunday, March 31 at Bremen Post 8972. Also election of officers will be held at the next meeting, Wednesday, April 3 for the Auxiliary. All members are urged to be present. Loyalty Day invitation was read from the Mishawaka Post 360, to be held Saturday, May 4, in Mishawaka. Report was given on the banquet the auxiliary served to the Nappanee and area sewage plant personnel. Treasurers report was read and approved. Ruch Heckathorn won the raffle. Ann Barrick announced that the April contest is a “Think Spring" contest. Each member must weigh in on April 1, and bring an artificial flower for a spring bouquet. Losers will draw for the sacrifice money next week, instead of putting it into the treasury. Each member has set her own goal, and declared the fine she will pay next week. WAR MOTHERS The American War Mothers, Nappanee chapter, will sponsor a bake sale, to be held April 6 at Hollar's Market. Members are asked to bring food containers to the next meeting, which will be held April 2. Young Homemakers The Young Homemakers will meet April 4 at the home of Ruby Wiseman. Roll call will be "When everyone laughed but me.” Ruth Berger is in charge of the devotions. The lesson will be on “Coping with stress", and will be led by Sharon Dohner. SENIOR CITIZENS Nappanee's Senior Citizens will meet April 4 at the West Park Pavilion. A potluck dinner will be shared at noon. Each person in attendance is asked to bring a 25 cent item for bingo.
