Frosh down Triton; even season record The Panther freshmen evened their record at 1-1 Thursday afternoon with a 19-6 victory over Triton at Memorial Field. The Panthers really improved their yardage this week, rushing for 203, and passing for 88 for a total of 291. Quarterback Randy Myers completed two of four passes for 88 yards and one touchdown. Halfback Mel Shields was the leading rusher with 120 yards; Tim Gerber had 16 yards; Bob King, 44; and Myers, 27. Shields set up the first auarter TD on an 85-yard run from the Panther 14, finally being hauled down at the Trojan one. On the next play he scored with 4:37 left in the first quarter. The PAT attempt failed. Myers racked up the next score with 6:35 left in the half with a three-yard burst. Roger Brown’s kick for the PAT was good’ With about 20 seconds remaining before half time, Myers threw a screen pass to Gerber covering 85 yards for the third TD. Brown's kick was wide, leaving the score at 19-0. Triton scored their only TD with 1:11 left in the third quarter. The PAT try failed leaving the final score, 19-6.
