attend the games regularly since! do not have anyone attending high school, but this game was exciting down to the very last second ants I am happy that I could witness the exuberance of both the team and the student body. There, is one thing I would like to comment on. As the game progressed into the final'seconds of play and Burkholder was Shooting his one and one foul shot, in this case it could-mean the matter of winning or nufe it did'not seem like the
time to announce the meeting of the captain's club. Here is a boy trying to concentrate on making these, foul shots and after making the first and starting to shot the second, what does he. hear but that the captain's club is going, to meet Whether this had any bearing on Burkholder missing the foul shoLwe will never know. But it seems in poof taste, timing, or Whatever to make that announcement* at that time If North Wood. .was playing some place , else and the situation was the spine. 1 am sure our side would he yelling "loul play '. I compliment the hoys and coach'on their great effort and 1 hope they may finish the season in the winning column • , ' t Marston Bfrkey . Wakarusa

Basketball results Panther frosh defeated Jimtown, 35-31, before being edged by Plymouth, 42-40. Bruce Umbaugh and Doug Borkholder netted 11 and 10 points respectively for the Panthers. Tim Clouse snared 15 rebounds. The Bees also won, 54-20. Against Plymouth, North Wood had its poorest shooting game of the year, scoring only two points the first quarter and 10 in the first half. The Panthers fourth quarter press put them ahead momentarily, but Plymouth pulled it out. Randy Loucks scored 10 points and Clouse grabbed 10*rebounds. The Bees also lost, 26-22. North Wood plays LaVille here Thursday, and will participate in a four-team tourney Saturday with West Noble, Wawasee, and Whitco at South Whitley starting at 9:45 a.m. An all out effort proved to be too much for the Warsaw Tigers as Nappanee eighth graders defeated them handily, 5742, in a recent game. Rob Schmeltz led the offensive attack with 13 points followed by Tim Bulger with nine. Defensive determination frustrated the Tigers constantly as Nappanee shut them out for the first five minutes of the first quarter. A zone by Warsaw was conquered by heads-up play and fine ball handling by Walters, Fuller and Shields. The seventh grade fared more poorly, however, losing to the same school, 52-32. High point man for the Bulldogs was Denny Mast with 10. NorlhWood’s “B” Team suffered its worst defeat this season Friday night losing to East Noble, 47-25. The Knights jumped out to 14-7 and 31-13 first quarter and half time leads on their way to win. They also out-rebounded North Wood, 2918 Gail Harmon grabbed six for the Panthers. In a “C” game at Claypool against Warsaw, North Wood defeated the Tigers, 45-40. The Panthers were down six at the half (23-17) before pulling ahead in the final two quarters. Mark Metzler scored to for the winners.
North Wood News Su/.i Johnson bast week was a jumbled, hectic week in many different ways. Monday was Monday dull and slow as usual, giving no hint of the excitement to come. Tuesday was here and gone, and -Wednesday many classes began semester exams. Thursday and Friday were the two days set aside for taking exams, but many classes started Wednesday because of two part exams. For example, in an English class one day might have an essay exam and the next day a regular exam. Evenings were, no doubt, spent by many wishing they had begun studying earlier like all their teachers told them to. Instead, they spent the night before an exam cramming—oh, well, if you can put if off Mil tomorrow, why do it today? Exams over, Friday afternoon was a vacation for all. Teachers and students alike needed the rest from giving and taking exams. The teachers got extra work, though, grading all those papers! Friday night was a great thrill for all, as the mighty Panthers finally let loose all their power and roared to a basketball victory. Pounding down the court for basket after basket, the Panthers took the East Noble Knights and chewed them into little pieces. The final score was 79-75, and naturally Panther fans went wild. We all knew you had it in you, guys—congratualtions! There are rumors that this is the beginning of a long and victorious winning streak, so clear the road for the Panthers—here they come!
