Letters . . . Spring vacation Hi, Well, another month is gone. I can hardly believe it. North Wood has only four more weeks of school, and in 14 weeks. I’ll be home. It’s been no long, I hope I pick up in the right place. My Easter vacation was fun — the weather wasn’t the greatest, but we had parties and bike hikes in spite of that. On the 9th my sister and I left on a 4-day trip with a group of Englanders. Every year, Nurmberg and this school in England exchange students. Each school takes the exchangees on some kind of trip. All of us Americans were invited. It was really fun. The first day, we were in Tandshut and Wasserburg. They are two small, very old towns in Germany. The next day we were in Salzburg, Austria. It’s where Mozart was born, and I can see where he got the inspiration for his music—it’s really beautiful there. We also visited a castle therethat was so much fun. The king had installed a sprinkler system 400 years ago to the surprise his guests. Every time you turned around, water was coming up or out of something. It was really funny, and amazing, too, that something like that was done so long ago. The next day we were in Innsbrook. It rained the whole time, but was fun and pretty anyway. I took a picture of the Golsen roof that turned out pretty good, so you can all see it. On our last day, we wait to Munich. I really fell in love with that city. There are thousands of foreigners, and it is a lot more Americanized than the rest of Germany. (The way people live and the things they eat.) First, we had a bus tour, and then we went to an art exhibit. It was interesting, but that type of art just doesn’t appeal to me. Then we were free to do what we wanted for a couple of hours. We looked at a couple of churches and did a little shopping. They have the cutest shops. I just love to go in them and look and look. Then we went to the Olympic area. It is really coming along, and is going to be really neat. Now I wish more than ever that I could be there in August. That night we went to Schwabing. It is the Greenwich Village of Munich. It’s where all the students live, and they have the neatest poster shops and even a Burger Chef. I had the first real milkshake since I left home. My German sister really liked them. I was then home for three days, and then we had to come back to Munich for a cousin’s baptism. Then I stayed with them for a week. It was so much fun. He writes for a big newspaper, so gets free tickets to lots of things, and I got to sit in the sth row and hear the Berlin Philharmonika with Karajan. It was really out of

this world. One day, I went to the Tenbach House and then shopping, and on Friday we went to a show and out to eat. Saturday I went to see a consentration camp. It was interesting, but very depressing. Sunday I came home. I missed my first train and caught the next one on the run, only to lack 50 cents of the fare. Luckily, some guy paid it for me, or it’s hard telling where I would be now. This week I finally finished a term paper that’s due May 15. If it’s good enough, I get to go to Berlin. I had to write it in German, so please keep your fingers crossed for me. Today we baked cookies, and a boy from Oregon who is in Stuttgart came to spend the week with us. I’ll go to live with his family then in the next month sometime. We do this exchanging within the exchange, so we’ll get to see more of Germany, and also get to know more than one family. I’m looking forward to it. Well, now you are all finally up to date with the news here. Tomorrow is the prom at home. I’ll be anxious to hear how it goes. Also, I guess I could tell you I’ll fly from Amsterdam August 17.1 can’t believe that’s only about 15 weeks away. Time goes so fast. Everyone have a nice spring and write when you can. See you in August, Debbie Hornish
Big success To The Advance-News: We would like to thank all those many people who made the Lora Belle Burt reception a success. There were all those who helped contact former students, parents, teachers, youngsters, friends, speakers at the reception, and most important of all, Mrs. Burt herself, for all the years of dedication to students. Thanks to all those who have contributed to the Memorial Fund in honor of Mrs. Burt. It will be announced at a later date as to how this fund will be used. The Lora Belle Burt Committee
Fired up To the Advance-News: Dear Editor, Elections to choose out new cheerleaders were May 9, and suddenly I am realizing that the cheerleading season is almost over for me. And, as I’ve been going through my newspaper dippings and pictures, I realized that there is somebody I really want to thank. The Nappanee Advance-News has done more to keep the spirit up in this community than anythingrelse. Not only has the community always been informed of our big successes and our hard tfines, but the headlines, front Jtage features and pictures have really kept me fired up. - It shows that somebody really cares about what we are trving to accomplish here at NorthWood. It shows that sporfb are one activity that can bf important to adults and kida. Thanks so much. A Former North Wood Cheerleader. '
