Certainly feel the Chamber of Commerce is “on the ball" and should be commended for their excellent taste in decorating our city. I am certain that much larger surrounding cities will not compare with our beautiful lights. At least the people passing through the town on U. S. 6 will realize that our Christmas Spirit is extended to each one. I do know that you receive many letters finding fault with things done in Nappanee, but I wanted you to know how many of us feel about the Christmas lights. Merry Christmas to all, Mary C. She stated that all seals were sent out on November 9th and that so far this year, a good response has been received. As of November 29, the Asj&eiation has received $13,842 forWte sale of Christmas Seals. This is about the same as last year on the same day of sale. A follow-up reminder was sent out on December Bth to all those who have not responded to the original mailing. This will be the last Christmas Seal Campaign to be held locally in Elkhart County. After reorganization is completed in 1972, the Seals will be sent out by computer from the new office in Mishawaka. Our goai'this year is $32,000, and it is hoped that we can make this year our best ever. If anyone wishes Christmas Seals please call the local office, 533-2804.
Dale A. Tobias | Telling it | The kids have been helping the volunteers at the Open Door, too. ★ * * The girls in Sherri Stump's Camp Fire group collected 35 pairs of mittens that were given to the Open Door staff to distribute. The mittens were distributed last week and Christmas came early to some needy kids. ★ ★ ★ Another group of young people, from the Brethren In Christ Church, are conducting a workshop on several days to help young children make Christmas gifts for their families and friends. ★ ★ ★ And at the grade schools, kids are bringing their extra pairs of boots from home to the school. The volunteers from the Open Door will pick them up and distribute them where they are needed. ★ ★ ★ So no one is too young or too old to help in this community project. ★ ★ ★ A staff member of the Open Door, which is a Community Concern Committee project, called to say they need volunteers to ring the bell for the Salvation Army, which is also working with the Open Door during the Christmas season. ★ ★ ★ They need bell ringers for evenings and for Saturday, December 18. Any volunteers?? ★ ★ ★ Anyone who knows of a need in the community any kind of special need should contact the Open Door. 4r ★ ★ They emphasize that the organization is primarily a referal agency, and although they are giviog some material needs, they are also willing to refer persons to someone who is ready to help them with their problems. ★ ★ ★ The Open D00r... one of Nappanee's most active and beneficial organizations.
