This holiday will be a long one, so have a good time, all of you. ★ ★ ★ Recipes for cook-outs. TERIZAKI BURGERS 10 slices pineapple (No. 2 can) 1/4 cup pineapple syrup Vs cup soy sauce 1 teaspoon ginger 14 teaspoon garlic powder 14 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons chopped onion 2 pounds ground beef Drain pineapple, saving 14 cup of syrup. Combine soy sauce, ginger, sugar, garlic powder and salt. Stir together until sugar is dissolved. Add 3 tablespoons of this mixture, the pineapple syrup and chopped onion to the meat. Mix thoroughly. Form patties; grill 8-10 minutes on each side. When meat is turned, dip pineapple slices into Terizaki sauce and grill. Serve on hamburgers. Pass mustard, ketchup or relish. Makes 8-10 servings, ★ ★ ★ CHICKEN LANAI 10 slices pineapple (No. 2 can) 2-3 teaspoons cornstarch Vs teaspoon marjoram 14 teaspoon garlic salt 14 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon soy sauce % cup pineapple syrup 2V2-3 lbs. chicken parts Drain pineapple and reserve syrup. Combine in a saucepan the cornstarch, marjoram, garlic salt and salt. Stir in soy sauce, gradually add pineapple syrup, stirring to blend. Cook and stir until mixture boils and thickens. Place pineapple slices in a shallow pan. Pour sauce over and let stand until ready to barbecue chicken. Lift pineapple out of sauce. Grill chicken, 4 to 6 inches from coals, 30 to 40 minutes, turning and basting with sauce several times. Grill pineapple slices 1 or 2 minutes and serve with chicken.

Locke’s march to prosperity came to a sudden halt in the early 1870s when the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad picked a route several mies south of the village’s location.
