PURCELL ELECTED NIPSCO DIRECTOR James F. Purcell, 48, of 8350 Parkview Avenue, Munster, has been elected a member of the Board of Directors of Northern Indiana Public Service Company, Dean H. Mitchell, NIPSCO chairman, announced today. Purcell, vice president of public relations for the utility since 1961, was elected to fill the unexpired term of the late Rollin M. Schahfer, who died of a heart attack May 24. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Purcell received his A. I. degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in June, 1943. That same month he was commissioned an ensign in the United States Naval Reserve. In May, 1946, he was honorably discharged from the Navy with the rank of lieutenant senior grade and immediately joined the McGrawHill Publishing Company in New York City. Five years later he entered the public relations consulting field as an. account executive with Selvage and Lee in Chicago. In September, 1953, he was appointed manager of public relations for Northern Indiana Public Service Company. He was elected vice president of public relations in 1961. < In 1965 the Public Relations Society of America announced that

He has served as chairman of the Public Relations Committee of the American Gas Association, is a member of the same committee with the Edison Electric Institute and has chairmaned the Public Relations Committees for both the Indiana Gas and Indiana Electric Associations. A former member of the Business Relations Committee of the United States Chamber of Commerce, he is past president and a director of both the Hoosier Chapter of the Public . Relations Society of America and the Serra Club of the Calumet Region. He is also a former chairman of the Hammond Community Chest Campaign and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Dyer, and Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Gary. In 1967 the Notre Dame Club of the Calumet Region elected him “Man of the Year ” Jim and his wife Dorothy, have ten children seven girls and three boys: Angela, 22; Ann, 21; Alicia, 16; Anita, 14; Alanna, 11; Jimmy, 9; Andrea, 7; Adria, 5; Michael, 4; and Gregory, 2. The Purcells are members of St. Thomas More Parish in Munster. When he sweens her off her feet, he usually has her on his hands.

"Little Mary Sunshine" Opening Is Postponed The unusual amount of precipitation during the past week has forced a delay in the opening of the season at the Enchanted Hills Playhouse. The 1968 summer season. scheduled to open Wednesday evening, July 3, will begin Sunday evening, July 7. The opening production will be the musical comedy Little Mary Sunshine. Robert W. Tolan, president of the Wawasee Arts Foundation which is now operating the popular summer theatre, explained that the rainy weather has slowed the work on remodeling the playhouse. Rehearsals for Little Mary Sunshine and the Rivals, the company’s first two productions, are moving ahead on schedule. But the playhouse modifications have suffered severe delays, according to Tolan. In announcing the change in the performance schedule, Tolan asked that patrons having tickets for Little Mary Sunshine on July 3 or 4, or for The Rivals on July 5 or 6, return them by mail for a refund or exchange them for tickets for another performance. Little Mary Sunshine performances are scheduled for July 7,9, 11, 13, 17, 19 and 21. The Rivals may be seen July 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20. Corresponding Secretary, attended the 65th annual convention of the sorority on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, June 21 to 23. Among the 600 delegates and guests in attendance were these other members from Nappanee: Miss Erma Yoder, Miss Margie Pletcher, Mrs. Ron Kiester, and Mrs. Curt Crane. Speakers appearing at the convention were Dr. Richard A. Hoops, director of Speech and Hearing Clinic at Ball State University, Dr. Kennon H. Shank, director of the Speech and Hearing Clinics, Indiana University, Dr. Clyde R. Willis, associate professor, Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Mich. Dr. Elsie Sweeney from Columbus, Ind., spoke to the delegates regarding the Tri-State Metropolitan Opera Auditions, and three chapters were the recipients of paintings from the Hoosier Art Salon. It was announced that Psi lota Xi had contributed $170,121.00 for its philanthropic activities during the past year, with nearly $42,000 donated to the support of speech and hearing therapy. New national officers were elected and installed, and the city for next year’s convention was selected to be Dayton, Ohio. The wild part was the editor, engrossed in listening .to the . Crimsonaires, signed it when it got to him and passed it on without looking at it. It’s too bad that we can’t forget our troubles as easily as we forget our blessings.
