Second Lieutenant Gerald L. File, son of Mr. artd Mrs. Robert L. File of 752 E. Marion, Nappanee, has received the U. S. Air Force Commendation Medal at Kelly AFB, Tex. Lieutenant File was decorated for meritorious service as a transportation officer at Kelly. He was cited for his outstanding duty performance. The lieutenant is a member of the Air Force Logistics Command. A graduate of Elkhart High School, he received a B.S. degree in 1966 from Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., and was commissioned there upon completion of the Reserve Officers Training Corps program. Lieutenant File is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. His wife, Marcia, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Levinson of 1129 Ivy Lane, Indianapolis. GUEST PREACHER Rev. 0. D. Wissler will preach Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Nappanee. He is Director of the Christian Service Center in South Bend. Rev. Wissler is an ordained EUB minister. Rev. Wissler's sermon topic will be “His City and Ours”. The Thursday communion service will begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 11. Rev. Starr Lloyd from the Presbytery in Indiana will preside. He is a retired U. S. Army chaplain.

Mrs. George Rose, Mrs. Tony Senff and Mrs. Ted Price attended the Region II Conference of “LiftOff 1968 Camp Fire Girls”. The conference was held last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Illinois Beach State Park Lodge, in Zion. Meetings of the conference featured guest speakers who are outstanding contributors to the Camp Fire Program. Guests were also invited to visit an exhibit of Camp Fire art and suggestions for local groups. A highlight of the session was a night time tour of the Chicago area. Mrs. Rose reports the speakers excellent and very challenging and the ladies have brought back with them a number of very good ideas for the modernization and improvement of our local program. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Fogel entertained for Sunday evening supper the Charles <Jrimms. Mr. Grimm left Tuesday for the service. Also present at the supper were the Sidney Feltons, Roger Grimms, James Grimms, Jan and Judy, and the Larry Whelans. Mrs. Bill Conrad and children, Tim and Tobi, are spending the next few weeks with her parents, the LaMar Culps. Mr. Conrad is doing student teaching at Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania. He is a student at State College - Pennsylvania. In June, the family will return to the college, where they will live until September 1, when Mr. Conrad will graduate. He is the son of the Walter Tobiases. Mrs. Artie Kuhn and Doris Oftelie and children Karen and Danny, flew to Mesa, Arizona for a recent two ' s week vacation. While there they visited the George Unsickers and the Lloyd Goldens, who are relatives of the family.

Mrs. Unsicker, Mrs. Kuhn and Mrs. Oftelie also visited Mrs. Unsicker’s daughter, Janice, who is a teacher in California. While in California, the ladies visited Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, the Los Angeles Farmers Market, China Town, and Hollywood. Back in Mesa, the family visited the Harold Youngs, Kermit Bergers, Jess Heplers, Rich Hepler, Andy Panichas, Chester Brewer, before returning home. Mrs. Bud Etsinger and daughter and Mrs. Dave Rock entertained at a surprise party last week honoring the 16th birthday of Cherylan Etsinger. Present at the party were Buddy and Jackie Sue Etsinger, Bill Mattern, Brenda Cripe, Doug Chokey, Pam Burkholder, Dave Hahn, Mary Orn, Lynn Croy, Debbie Kauffman, Keith Stickler, Shirley Johnston, Howard Mishler, Dave Hoffer, Cathy Tobias, Randy Slabaugh, Jett Rowland, Mark Newcomer, Denise Verstmete, Rick Mishler, Steve Neff, Debbie Rink and Rick Strang. Debbie Rink was awarded the door prize. Traditional refreshments of ice cream, cake and soft drinks were served. A group of 41 members of the Church of God took a bus tour of Chicago last Thursday. The group visited Don McNeils breakfast club and then toured the Haeger potteries near Dundee. They also visited a flower show and were given demonstrations on how to arrange flowers. In the evening, the ladies went to the Pacific Garden Mission where they were served supper and given a tour of the building after which they attended the evening services. ON FURLOUGH Sp/5 Rex A. Culp arrived from Ft. Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska, Sunday morning. He will be home on furlough for 30 days then will report back to the same address for another 11 months when he will have served his 3 years in the Armed Forces. He had been gone from Nappanee 1 year and 3 months.

NIPSCO EMPLOYEE RETIRES Guy L. Hall, 202 West Indiana Avenue, Nappanee, will retire from Northern Indiana Public Service Company April 1, 1968, culminating 40 years of utility service. A native of Kosciusko County, Indiana, he began his career with the Nappanee Utilities Company in 1928.

tem in 1966. Hall was appointed switchboard operator August 10, 1966, the position he holds at retirement. His favorite leisure-time activity is gardening. He also enjoys carpentry and during the past 12 years has made specialized tables for several prominent local people. Guy has five sons and three daughters: Glen, San Diego, California; Donivan, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Dewey, Goshen; Herman, Elkhart; Lyle, Bremen; Mrs. LaFerne E. Kieffer, Alexandria, Louisiana; Mrs. Doris E. Wagner, New Paris; and Mrs. Mary Alice Hartzell of Nappanee. He is now remarried and has a stepson, Oscar Weaver of Syracuse, Indiana. Guy also has 33 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. After retirement Hall and his wife, Jennie, plan to travel and visit with their family and friends.
