After singing “Deeper, Deeper,” Mary Miller read an article by Paul Harvey, -‘if I Were the Devil,” and Lillie Johnston led in prayer. During the business session the ladies voted to send food parcels to India and East Pakistan and have a rummage sale in Warsaw, October 13 and 14. Officers elected were Mary Miller, president; Betty Johnston, vice-president; Wilma Sparks, secretary and Eloise Beery, treasurer. After singing “Hiding in Thee,” Juanita Hoffer read the poem, “God First,” then led discussion of the question, “Is Meditation a Lost Art?” Following the benediction, a silent auction was held,

Darrell Prichard was speaker, telling of his trip to Haiti. The September 19 birthday of Paula Higgins and September 22 birthday of Douglas Anthony were celebrated Thursday evening with a supper at the home of Dorotha Anthony and Hazel Higgins. Later in the evening homemade ice cream brought by Paula's parents was served. Roll call was answered by relating a school day experience, and “School Days” was the theme of the program by Louise Hepler and Audrey Rummel. Home made ice cream, cookies, mints, coffee and punch were served. Mrs. Charles Kerlin entertained seven of her first cousins Wednesday afternoon at her home west of Milford. Dessert was served at one large table, featured with potted plants, floral centerpieces and a birthday cake. Those having September birthdays included Mrs. Carolyn Thomas of Warsaw, Mrs. John Applegate, Community Center, and the hostess. Others present were Mrs. Harvfey Syler, Nappanee, Mrs. Lorrie Farrington, Goshen, Mrs. Amos Gawthrop, Mrs. Harry Good, Milford and Mrs. Lester Rowland, this community. Mr. and Mrs. John Holaway heard the Masters quartet at the New Paris United Missionary Church Sunday mprning, then had dinner at Eby Pines east of Bristol, celebrating Mrs. Holaway’s birthday. The Mt. Tabor WCSC will serve lunch at the Mrs. Alva Johnston sale being held Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mikel visited Mrs. Herman Blessing last Monday evening. Sunday afternoon Mrs. Blessing and Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Blessing called on Mr. and Mrs. Amos Reed of rural Nappanee. Mrs. Robert Compton underwent an emergency appendectomy last week and planned to return to her Elkhart home Sunday. Lola Thomas is home again after being in the hospital and recuperating in a nursing home and at the home of her son and hiis wife. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edler and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Dasher surprised Mrs. John Holaway with ice cream and cake Wednesday evening, which was her birthday. i Vern Mai-quart has been a patient at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, the past six weeks, and would appreciate hearing from his friends. His room number is 3-105. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jones and Mrs. Elizabeth Jones called on Mrs. Mary B. Davis at the Murphy Medical Center, Warsaw, Saturday evening. She had been there since the previous Tuesday.

Mrs. James Stackhouse is now at the Prairie View Rest Home in Warsaw. Thursday evening Mrs. Walter Miller, Scott township Tuberculosis Association chairman, attended the annual dinner meeting and election of the Kosciusko counity organization. Clark E. Matson, executive manager of Irene Byron Hospital, Ft. Wayne, spoke on “TB Today”- with emphasis on the planned extended care program and also gave a tour of Irene Byron with colored slides. IMr. and Mrs. Tobias Borkholder and family and Mrs. Joe Miller hiave moved to the Elmer Gall farm in Marshall county. Glenn Borkholder has bought the farm the Borkholders and Mrs. Miller vacated. In the distance can be seen the first airplane landing at Nappanee's new airport last weekend. It was a twin engine Beechcraft belonging to Martin Goodyear, President of the Indiana Mobile Homes Association, who came to the Heckaman Manufacturing showing. Later, Lyle Yoder flew over in his plane, saw the plane on the ground and landed. On Sunday, Clay Claxton, the son-in-law of the Tom McDows flew in to pick up his family. He took Off from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Rurnmel motored to Lagrange, Illinois Where they called on Pearl and Blanche Rummel. Pearl has had a sitroke. A former pastor of the Mt. Tabor Church, Rev. Paul Watson, will be the morning speaker at the annual Homecoming being held Sunday, October 8. A basket dinner at the Fellowship Hall will be held aft noon, followed by a short program, also at the Hall. The evening service will feature a singispdration with Rev. and Mrs. Morris Haokworth leading the singing. Mr. and Mrs. Max Sparks and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Stultzman hosted Mt. Tabor Class Six Monday evening. Homemade ice cream and cake were served. Plans were formulated to make and sell peanut brittle prior to the Christmas season. LUTHERAN WOMEN St. John’s Lutheran Church Women will meet Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Church. Mrs. Max Grimm will be the leader. BEATTY HOSPITAL PARTY The Nappanee Volunteers; Anna Counts, Opal Longfield, chrm. Mildred Parks and guest Lillian Morris put on a party for Ward 3-North in Maximum Security, serving 72 patients with Bar-B-Que sandwiches, fresh tomatoes, celery, home made cookies and pies, coffee with plenty of cream and sugar. Fresh popped corn was distributed before we left the ward. This party was made possible by the following donations; cash, American Legion Auxiliary, Mrs. Roy Martz, Mns. Opal Lppgfield, Dave Miller, Harold Sedhrist, Sam Gwln, Mrs. Jessie Shinhole of Westport and 2 anonymous donors. Other donations were Mand Chapel Church ladies, 20% dozen Cookies, Amish ladies in Tobias J. Sllabaugh Jr. district, 12 pies; Mrs. Kenneth Culp and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Was, tomatoes; Mrs. Eugene Yoder, celery; VFW ladies Auxiliary, 2 cartons of cigarettes; John Price, puzzles for the ward; Mrs. Bill Mishier and Mrs. Forrest Stahley popped and bagged 75 bagis of pop corn. The patient- band played several selections during the evening and dedicated several to the volunteers putting on the party. Our next party Will be October 23, which will be the Halloween party and we will need support from the community, as this is a community project.
