back north. While it is nice to come and keep out of the zero weather and snow, we are anxious to get back among our many friends there and plan our summers work. But we are glad we didn’t Have to shovel snow. We keep watching the weather reports and it looks like you are having nice wepther, which makes us the more anxious to get back. I have had a wonderful time fishing on the Sarasota Bay and have supplied several fish dinners to our friends with speckled and silver trout. I have a friend from Troutwood, Ohio, that has a boat. But he has gone home and I am grounded now and am restless. When John Stahley from Nappanee was here he was kind enough to ask me to go with him. But I will have to give up my winter’s fishing until next winter. I didn’t aim to write all this which perhaps is of very little interest to you. But having nothing to do, it took up some time. Am sorry I don’t have my typewriter which would have made this easier to read. Yours truly, Rev. C. A. Stewart. Box 1225 San Juan, Texas 78589 March, 1967 Dear Friends, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” And we do praise the iioTd for all of you. The churches in Mexico had a convention this past month. This event is always a highlight for the Christians. The church at Ohareo Azul was host with people coming from the mountains 200 miles away. Bro. Robert Lang, Spokane, Washington, was one of the main speakers. His ministry is one of teaching the Word which is greatly needed in Mexico. A number accepted the Lord as their Savior and the Christians were encouraged to walk closer to the Lord. The Lord has opened anew door for Carlyle and I to attend Spanish classes at the Missionary Language School at the Rio Grande Bible Institute, Edinburg, Texas. This opportunity came quite unexpectedly within two weeks of the opening of the semester, it is so wonderful to have the peace of God in our hearts and to know that we are in His perfect will. We praise the Lord for the privilege to equip ourselves with the Spanish Language so that the ministry of the Word will be more effective. The Rio Grande Bible Institute is inter-denominational with a Bible School for the Latin Americans and the Missionary Language School. The Missionary Language students come from all denominations and from all parts of the United States. In our dess one student is from South Africa, it is a blessing to meet others who also have a burden for Latin America. We are enjoying this new experience of going back to school.
The courses, so far, are not too difficult but do requite many hours* of study since it is necessary to memorize almost everything. Our two sons, Brent and Terry, have adjusted well and are enjoying the school here in San Juan. Their playmates are both English and Spanish-speaking children. We thank the Lord that they have made the change with Hitle difficulty. They also like to hear from their friends back home. This past month Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hershberger from Goshen, Indiana, were in our home for a brief visit. It is always a pleasure to see folks from home. Thank yon for ail your prayers and gifts. It means so much to know that others are standing with us for Mexico. The needs there are staggering. So continue to remember us in prayer. The Lord bless you all. Write soon. Your Missionaries to Mexico, Carlyle and Freada Welty GETS CERTIFICATE Gene H. King has recently received a certificate of membership in the New York State Fruit Testing association. D.E.N. During the winter, the editor had a bright idea that some day Nappanee could plant some trees which would be decorative. Wrote Purdue for advice. Received first a pamphlet telling how to plant trees, then a pamphlet on disease of the trees, then one on care and feeding of trees. Still nothing on what kind to plant. Does anyone have an idea of an attractive tree which would grow well in this climate and would create a pretty display at some season? ★ ★ ★ When we said we had baby Mollies which we'd give away, we didn't know how many tropical fish fanciers there are in Nappanee, nor how hard it is to raise baby Mollies to maturity. ★ ★ ★ Went downstate last week for Jim Wright's funeral. Everything is far advanced there as far as forsythia and daffodils in bloom and much greener trees. ★ * ★ Spring brings out the salesmen. We've had several in the office who appareittfTiOT effedit for how many calls they make, not how many sales they close. ★ ★ ★ Here are some tips if you're sending a photograph for use in a newspaper. Don't use a paper clip. It bends the picture and the mark of the clip will show up in the paper. Same for scotch tape. And don't write on the picture. With small weeklies like ours, we have no way to enlarge or reduce the picture, although the dailies usually do. DORCAS CIRCLE The Dorcas Circle of the Methodist Church will meet ait the home of Mrs. Lowell Roose on Wednesday, April 12, with Mrs. Ralph Jerles as co-hiostess. Mrs. Ed Hepler will be in charge of devotions. The lesson by Mrs. Carlyle Mutschler and roll call will be current events. All are reminded of their penny a day boxes which are due in April.

R. I. C. It has been mentioned before, but it deserves reiteration. Nappanee Civic Theater is extremely fortunate to have a set designer with the capabilities of Dori Crane. In our theater the set designer also has to pick up the paint brush and go to work. This is where Dori steps ’way ahead of the majority. Her sets provide a realism with their authenticity that not only helps the audience with the intended illusion but also gives a boost to the cast. Recently, a group of ladies from Nappanee visited the auditorium of a civic theater in another town. Their set was ready for their forthcoming play, one which Nappanee has presented. The general concensus was that there was no comparison. Dori Crane won it hands down or brushes up. Wait till you see her Okinawan landscape for Teahouse of the August Moon which NCT is presenting this week. Another of Dori’s masterpieces. * * * According to a TV news program viewed this past weekend, the Italians engage themselves in a heinous sport which has disillusioned a tot of us. This socalled sport is that of shooting songbirds. Armed with smallbore shotguns, hordes of Italians try to ’Wipe the Countryside clean of all forms of- songbirds. Most of their quarry ends up as gourmet i-tehas in Italian restaurants, so apparently the non-shoot-ing public accepts this slaughter. And it is slaughter, too. Even now -the insect population is on the increase which can bode no pleasure for coming generations. Noit content with shooting these small birds out in the countryside, -they make the system more efficient by the use of huge nets by which the birds are trapped and moved to the cities where —you guessed it they shoot them in -their back yards. Other European countries complain loudly about the practice saying that migratory flocks are -being decimated by the Italian shotguns. They have little recourse in their objection, however. Knowledge of this practice destroys some of the image we had of the Italians. The fun-loving, song - filled, -light - -hearted, vinodrinking, guitar-strumming, skinpinching Venitian or Neopoldtan seems to lose some stature as he squints down a .410 barrel at a warbler or goldfinch. May the Bird of Paradise track up their pizzas.
