Miles R. Fairchild has been appointed Assistant Protestor for Special Education at Loretto Heights College, Denver, Colorado, and consultant tp Havern School, Loretto-operated school for brain injured and neurologically impaired children. Fairchild did his graduate work in special education at Colorado. State College at Greeley, and additional work at the graduate level at' the University of Denver and CSC. Before his appointment to Loretto Heights he was Educational Supervisor of the children's school of the Ft. Logan Mental Health Center. Fairchild attended the John F. Nuner Elementary and Junior High School in South Bend and graduated from Nappanee High School. He attended Ball State University at Muncie. He is a former teacher at Mishawaka High School in Mishawaka. He is the son of Mrs. Ava V. Fairchild, formerly of River Park and E. M. Fairchild. He is the nephew of Miss Dora S. Fairchild of Mishawaka.
Farm-City Day Banquet To Be November 15 Arrangements are being made for the annual Farm-City Day banquet which will be held at Eby Pines Restaurant, November 15, starting at 6:30 p.m. according to LaMar Huneyeager, chairman of the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee. Community representatives from Elkhart County assisting in the planning and promotion of this Farm-City Banquet are Russell Method, New Paris; Hal Doriot and Phil Warner, Goshen; Bill Day, Elkhart, Bill Hostetler, Nappanee; and Gene Eckrote from the Elkhart County Cooperative Extension Service. This timely subject will evaluate how agriculture production costs effects the price of foodstuffs in the supermarket, and the growing concern among housewives over this inflationary trend. The main purpose of Farm-City Day is to improve relations and understanding between the agricultural producer and the urban consumer. Here is a chance for the urban dweller to converse with the rural public on the factors that contribute to the costs of owning and operating a farm, and how these costs effect the price of food in the market place. Doll Winners Are Announced ' i ; Gail Armantrout, was judged- as grand prize winner for her doll “Miss Muffet,” in the local Camp Fire Girls “Dolly Derby.” Seventy five dolls were dressed by the local girls, for the derby which is sponsored by Goodwill Industries in South Bend. The dolls were judged in age groups, an orginiality, appearance, sewing skill, suitability (design, fabric, fit, pressing), and completeness of costume. Other local winners according to Camp Fire ranks were Trail Seekers, Jan Geyer, Susan Clouse, Wanda Ewing, and Kellie Curtis, first; Carla Stump, Jill Silvers, Beth Widmoyer, and Cheryl Sechrist, seconds; Wood Gathesers, Diane Yofder, Margarito Olivella, Jan Dougherty, and Debbie Brown, firsts; Susie Stillson, Carla Slabaugh, Raye Yoder, and Jeanne Love, seconds; Fire Makers, Gayle Minder, Joanne Guckenberger and Cindy Stutzman, firsts; Jo Lynn Chapman, Marla Dixon, and Pam Helper, seconds; Torch Bearers, Carol Armantrout, Sue Ann Sechrist, and Barbara Hurst, first, and Debra Guckenberger, and Deanna Jack, seconds. These winners represent the various groups in each rank. These dolls will be on display in the window at Ray’s Carpet Shop, until Monday, when they will be taken to the Goodwill Industry plant in South Bend, where they will be exhibited and judged November 2, along with dolls dressed by other Camp Fire groups in the area. Winners will be awarded ribbons at a special Dolly dinner on November 28 at the Goodwill plant. Dolls go on display at the Goodwill plant November 17 and 18 under the supervision of the Women’s Auxiliary of Goodwill. A special sale will be held, November 29 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On November 30 they will be sent to all Goodwill stores for sale to the public. The girls may purchase their dolls, if they so wish after they have been judged and priced. Each girl entering the “Dolly Derby” win the experience of learning to serve others with own recourses and skills. To each girl is extended a special thanks from the handicapped men and women at Goodwill Industries. PAST MATRONS The Past Matrons of the Order of Eastern Star will meet Tuesday, November 1 with Mrs. haskell Osborn at 7:30 p.m. Assisting the hostess will be Mrs. Lenore Pletcher, and Mrs. Katie Maude Pletcher. KINDERGARTEN TEA Mothers of Mrs. Stoops’ Central Kindergarten classes met Friday afternoon, October 14, for the annual fall tea. Refreshments were served from a table featuring an autumn motif, and the atmosphere was further enhanced by the colorful room decorations made by the children.
