of Nappanee last week with 'her beautiful blue hair. One salesman, observing her in a local store, remarked, “Now I’ve seen everything.” He seemed much relieved when it was explained to him that it was only for her role in “The Curious Savage”. Cay and the rest of the cast did a splendid joib and those who missed the play can be assured that the missed an evening of excellent entertainment. Last Saturday, Nappanee’s Bluebird groups held their annual birthday party at the Church of the Brethren. Refreshments for the party were provided by the Nappanee Camp Fire Council, and served by Martha Kuhns and a committee of group sponsors that included Mrs. Walter Lawmaster, Mrs. David Widmoyer and Mrs. Jim Slagle. The leaders of the groups and the entertainment they provided w’ere: Mrs. Lowell Hoffer “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round
the Mountain”; Mrs. Alvin Stutzman Stunt; Mrs. Robert Stover rhythm band; Mrs. James Howard “Did You Ever See A House Fly?”; Mrs. Fred Webb dancing game; Mrs. Robert Chokey —school skit; Mrs. Paul Flowers “Lonely Little Petunia”. Group singing was led by Mrs. Jim Slagle and Mrs. George Rose. The checkout ladies at Foodtown are now sporting colorful new uniforms. These very attractive dresses are blue with red trim and are a lovely addition tc the store. The J. E. McDonalds arnived back in Nappanee after a three month vacation in Albuquerque. New Mexico. While there, they visited their daughter-in-law, Mrs Edgar Miller, their daughter and family, the Arthur Mirkensons. and another daughter and family, the Harold Phillips Jrs. The Phillips welcomed anew baby daughter to their family while the McDonalds w'ere there. The Presbyterian nursery school bad lots of excitement one day last week when the pupils made pancakes. It was quite an adventure to see if they could eat as many pancakes as the storybook character, Little Black Sambo. It was thought syrup might get a bit sticky, so they were given powdered sugar to coat their pancakes with. The happy youngsters related their experiences to their parents and remarked that they got to roll their pancakes in “flour.” While her husband,’ George Rose,

attended an agricultural conference at Purdue University last Wednesday and Thursday, Mrs. Rose spent some tame in Indianapolis visiting her son’s family. The Jim Roses will be coming to Nappanee in a few’ weeks to spend their spring vacation with the George Roses. Their vacation begns April 3rd and will undoubtedly be a happy one as the tw'O families get together. Mrs. Rose remarked that her little granddaughter became HI last week and as soon as she was put to bed, she asked her mother to go to the mailbox and see if there were any get well cards for her. A number of friends and relatives traveled to the “Wooden Keg” in South Bend March 7 to celebrate the birthday of Bill Best with a dinner party. Those w r ho attended the celebration were the Sherlin Bollmans, Bill Bests, Dick Bests, Mrs. Idola Best, the Pat Carunchias, Howard Barricks and the LaMar Stouders. Mrs. Pait Carunchia’s parents, the Russell Coffmans, are visiting with the Carunchias. The Coffmans spent several weeks in Florida and then a week at their home in West Virginia before coming north to Nappanee. Mel Witt was home last weekend from Warren Wilson College in North Carolina. On Sunday, he and Pat Stouder traveled to Auburn and attended services at the Presbyterian Church. Rev. David Stalnaker Files For County Councilman It was announced today that David H. Stalnaker of Nappanee has filed for the office of County Councilman for Elkhart County’s Third District. This district includes the townships of Cleveland, Osolo, Baugo, Olive, Harrison, Locke and Union. A resident of Nappanee since 1936, Stalnaker has been active In many city aind county activities, deluded in the former are his having heen president of the Nappanee Community United Fund, past president of Nappanee B£wanis Club, assistant scoutmaster of Troop 33, Boy Scouts, and wps a Republican precinct committeeman of Union 70. IJe has served as president of the Elkhart County Civil Defense Advisory Council. Stalnaker attended Nappanee High School and Purdue University and is now manager of Resign engineering for Vitreous Steel Products Cos. in Nappanee; lie is a member of the Methodist Church, Nappanee Lodge $9. 566 F & AM, Scottish Rite, and American Legion Post 154. He served in both World War n and the Korean War as a USAF pilot. 44 years old, Stalnaker lives at 904 E. John St. in Nappanee witti his wife, Barbara, and their sons, Scott and John. jf.
