The Beatles invaded Nappanee last weekend, much to the delight Os their Nappanee fans. In case you’re wondering how you missed all the excitement, it was con- j fined to the theater, where the Beatles movie “Help” was being featured. It provided the movie goers with several hours of enjoyment, and I guess it will have to do until the real “thing” can be persuaded to make a personal appearance. For those of you who don’t care for the Beatles, there was also a bit of excitement at the east side of town as Nappanee’s professional bowlers, the women, took to the alleys for their annual city tournament. If yo u missed the i performances Sunday, you still have a chance to see the pros in action because the tourney con- • eludes this weekend. Just a word of warning if you decide to 1 witness the tourney, please wipe s your shoes off before you cross the floor to the observer benches. If the bowler’s shoes are wet, it makes it a bit difficult to carry out the correct approach before releasing the ball. If you fail to wipe your shoes, you may be en-! countered by several angry bowlers and it is quite possible you could end up with no shoes at all!! Seaman Jerry Weldy and his wife, Pamela, left Wednesday as-! ter spending several days with his parents, the Glen Weldys. Before arriving in Nappanee, Jerry and Jam spent some time with her parents in Michigan. Seaman Weldy, who was formerly stationed at Baimibridge, Maryland, has been I transferred, and he and his wife will now be making their home at the Naval Base in Pensacola, Fla. People are often said to make snap decisions, and that is exactly what Bill Gan shorn and his daughter, Shirley, did a short time ago. They decided on Tuesday that they needed a vacation and left right away for Denton, Texas. The Ganshorns are former residents of Denton, and have many friends there. Bill and Shir-1 ley stayed with friends during their visit, which ended on Sun- J

I day. Shirley especially enjoyed the trip - because her College friends were on vacation for se mester break, and it gave her a good chance to visit with them. A snap decision, but a very nice trip, and an extremely good time was had by father and daughter. And Where were mother Kate and son, Carl, at the time minding the Store, of course. Mrs. Wilma Pippenger left January 19 with Mrs.’ Bea Tobias for a trip to Riverside, California. Mrs. Tobias is, how making her home there. The ladies, who drove | to the west coast, Were delayed a | day in the Panhandle, due to heavy snow and below zero temperatures. As they proceeded westward they stopped in Phoenix, Arizona, for a visit with the Lisle Wilts. While in California, the two visited Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm; they also enjoyed a two day excursion to Las Vegas, j Nevada, and a two mile ride on the Aerial Tram Way in Palm Springs. After a very wonderful vacation, Mrs. Pippenger left Sunday and flew back to Nappanee. She was amazed at the fact that she left California at 9:46 a.m., and was home by 6:15 in the evening.
With Valerttine’s Day a short time away, now is a good time to pass along what seems to be a very good idea. Ih Quebec, Canada, Valentine’s Day has been designated the “Festival of Old People and Sick People”. The Quebeckers observe this very special day by paying visits to those who are sick or to an elderly person, who sometimes feels very alone and forgotten in other words to people who are in need of special love. The visitor takes along a present, perhaps a book, candy, fruit etc. It is hoped that these visits will make the recipient feel as warm in the heart as he did when he was younger and opened the valentines given him. This idea would be a good one for all to observe. It would probably make your Valentine’s Day happier as well as that of the person to whom you pay the visit.

Third Graders See The Circus The long awiaiited day at the Shrine Circus became a reality last Friday for 165 excited third graders when the Jaycees and the American Legion jointly financed their big day. The day started long before the children were up when members of each organization met at the V.F.W. and prepared sack lunches which were to be eaten on the buses on the way home from fchte circus. The children left Nappanee at 10:45 am. in three school buses and joined a caravan of other buses in Warsaw. The caravan of 31 buses was escorted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept., the Warsaw Police, and the Warsaw Fire Dept, to the Coliseum in ft. Wayne, where thousands of third grade children had a Wonderful time. Accompanying the Nappanee third graders were Gareth Sechrisft, child Welfare chairman of the Nappanee American Legion, and Don Sheets, who represented the Jaycees and the third grade teachers.
