Relatives have returned to their homes, trees and decorations have beep taken down, and Santa Claus hajfJretaJ'Aed to the North Pole to begin -preparations for next year. Nativity scenes have been put back in closets until next year, which really isn’t necessary because the birth of Christ should be remembered all through the year. Playrooms are a bit more cluttered with the addition of Christmas toys, and most everyone appears now and then in a new outfit he or she received for Christmas. First National Raises Interest Rates On Deposits The First National Bank of Elkhart County has increased its interest rates on savings certificates Os deposit to 4V2%, which is the maximum rate allowable in the State of Indiana, according to an announcement by Wilbur Wright, president. The increased rate became effective January 1, 1986, and the minimum amount of SIO,OOO will be dropped to $5,000 as well as changing the maturity date of the certificate from six months to 90 days. Wright said that the First National is the first bank in the area to reduce the amount to $5,000, which will make the new rate available to more savers. He said that interest will be computed from the day of deposit and paid each quarter, with an automatic 90 day renewal period, unless the depositor requests otherwise. Wright also announced that certificates of SI,OOO up to $5,000 will be issued at 4% and also will be available for 90 days or longer. In addition to the ttvo certificates of deposit programs, Wright said the bank will also continue to offer “Instant interest’’ regular savings program at 3% % with interest being paid from the day of deposit to the day of withdrawal . ■as well qs fieing compounded on a quarterly Oasis.
