Bulldogs Lose Their Last Game To Plymouth 7-0 Nappanee’s football team, under the coaching of newcomer Bill Svyantek, ended a brilliant season on a dismal note. They tied Bremen and Warsaw, beat Manchester and Rochester, and lost to Plymouth last Wednesday in the Northern Lakes Conference. With four non-conference wins, the Bulldogs finished with a 6-1-2 record. Plymouth’s Steve Wiseman was :he big ground gainer. He’d pick up a few yards every time he had the ball. The Bulldogs started without Tom Greene, w'ho had the flu, and Tom Evans suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter. It was discovered later that Rod Miller played the whole game with a high fever. Plymouth received Dave Hoffer’s kickoff but was unable to get a first down, but their punt bounced all the w r ay to the Bulldog 10. Nappanee then didn’t move, and Ted Frick punted. Plymouth moved to Nappanee’s 28 where the Bulldogs took over. Ted Frick then made seven yards and then a first down. Tom Evans, Ted Frick and Dave Callander got a first down at midfield. After moving eight more yards, a screen pass from Lewie Swihart to Callander netted another first down on Plymouth’s 34. A pass from Swihart to Kurt Stump was good, but Nappanee was penalized 15 for an illegal receiver. Finally Ted Frick had to punt again. Plymouth returned to their own 42, were again stopped and punted into Nappanee’s end zone. Starting on their own 20, the Bulldogs, on consistent gains and a good pass from Lew Swihart to Kent Stump, got to Plymouth’s 30. But the play was called back and they were penalized 15. They didn’t recover this loss and had to punt, this time to Plymouth’s 28. Two plays later, Wiseman made a first down on his 42. Bergman and Menser made another into Nappanee territory. Then Dave Ingle made a good tackle, and Plymouth w a s penalized 15. Then they started their first march toward the Bulldog goal. They got all the way to the six yard line when they Wimbled, and Ingle recovered. Taking over with their backs to the goal, the Bulldogs stalled, and Ted Frick had to punt out of danger. His kick was high, and Plymouth had another chance on the Bulldog 24. They were pushed

way back as the half ended, and Nappanee had one more unsuccessful chance. Ted Frick ran the kickoff to his own 27 to start the second half. Finally Ted made it first down on the 44 and then went through the middle to midfield. Tom Evans picked up three more, and Dave Ingle made another first down. Evans got away for nine, and Frick made another first down on Plymouth’s 26. A few plays later, Ted was hurt. The Bulldogs bogged down again, and Plymouth took over on their own 31. From there, Wiseman and company moved into Nappanee territory, but Kurt Stump picked off a pass on his own 30. Two plays later, Plymouth’s Jim Menser intercepted a Bulldog pass. Again Plymouth marched, this time fumbling on Nappanee’s 11 yard line. Windy Adams recovered, and Nappanee still had plenty of time in the fourth quarter. Three 15 yard penalties in a row against Plymouth, two for unnecessary roughness, got the Bulldogs again deep in enemy territory. It was on the first of these plays that Tom Evans w'as hurt. Plymouth’s coach also got penalized for his march onto the field. Again, though, the Bulldog’s couldn’t sustain a drive, and Plymouth took over on their own 30. It was then that Plymouth marched to a touchdown aided by a penalty against Nappanee and consistent yardage by Menser and Wiseman. They took it in from the four yard line and made the point after touchdown. The Bulldogs took to the air, and a pass from Swihart to Kurt Stump netted a first down. But the pass attack failed, and Plymouth took over as the game ended amid cheers from the Plymouth fans and a large contingent of Bremen people.

*i. ' ' This picture was taken of Tom Evans just before he was hurt dfir’lhg the Plymouth game. The call for piling on did little to appease fctns, who felt that Tom's injury was unnecessary and could have been abided. Earlier, Nappanee fans had been disturbed when the fact that Ted Frick on a punt situation, received unnecessary roughness, pot detected by referees.
