Bulldogs Keep Unbeaten Record During the games which Nappanee has played with New Carisle, the Tigers are unaccustomed o being the underdogs. They ouldn’t seem to get anyplace Friday against a tough Bulldog line. The Tigers kicked off to Nappanee, and Randy Croy returned to lis own 35. The Bulldogs then began their first drive. Dave Calender picked up eight yards, and fom Greene moved to a first down <n a keep to the 50. Evans picked ip four, Callander moved it four, ;nd Tom Evans made it another first down on the Tiger 40. Jim Deardorff carried to the 26 on the first of his good runs. Tom Evans kicked up a couple. Then Tom Greene connected to Kurt Stump m the 10 yard line. Evans gained wo, and Cow plunged to the 2% ard line. It was then that the Bulldog drive stalled. New Carisle took over. They couldn’t get out of the hole, however, and ounled. Brad Newcomer returned it to the Tiger 3. Cow picked up ight yards on two downs. Then Tom Greene threw a fine pass to Tom Evans to New Carisle’s 13. A oenaltv on the Tigers for roughng Tom Greene on the next pass attempt helped. Then Tom Evans got the first down close to the goal line. Nappanee was then penalized five. But Jim Deardorff got i back to the one yard line. The irst Nappanee score came on a oass from Tom Greene to Kent Stump. Callander’s point after cick was perfect. The Bulldogs eading 7 to 0, kicked off to the Tiger 25 as the quarter ended. New Carlisle was unable to susain a drive and had to punt out if bounds to Nappanee’s 46. After Evans and Callander had moved .he ball to the Tiger 33, Nappanee fumbled, the ball fell all over the 1 place, and New Carlisle recovered on their own 46. Again, though, ilie Tigers showed no offensive drive and ptrnte<i. This time, the

Bulldogs got a first down but lost the ball on the next four dowms to the Tigers on their own 46. The best New Carlisle run was made by Greg Wiliams ,who broke away for 20 yards. Lew Swihart, the only man between him and the goal, stopped him on his own 28. Plays later, Nappanee took over on the 21, and the half ended with aCgood short pass from Greene to Evans. Callander’s kickoff put New Carlisle in the hole at the start of the second half. .The Tigers had to start on their own 14. A pass from Scott Shuey to Gil Peterson gained a quick first down. Another pass moved to the 35. A few plays later, the Tigers fumbled, and Kent Stump recovered on New' Carlisle’s 40. Then, with a 4th and eight situation, Tom Greene threw another fine pass to Kent Stump, which was caught and then fumbled. The Tigers recovered on their own six. New Carlisle punted to their own 32. Nappanee bogged down, and the Tigers again took over on their own 36. Tim Moffitt, the Tigers biggest ground gainer, picked up some yardage. Then Phil Hahn intercepted a Tiger pass on his own 49. The third quarter started with a 51 yard run for a touchdown by Jim Deardorff, who drove into the secondary and sprinted all the way. The point after wasn't good, but Nappanee led 13 to 0. In the last quarter, Lew Swihart had a pass intercepted. A few' plays later, fans thought Brad Newcomer had intercepted a Tiger pass in the end zone, but it w'as ruled incomplete. But on that series of downs, the Nappanee line made its goal 1i h e stand. Rod Miller, Dick Tobias and the good defensive team stopped them; Nappanee then tried to move out of the hole. Finally a long punt by Lew' Swihart took off the pressure. Moffitt and company made a last minute effort. Rod Miller finally smeared him for a loss. Then, as the game ended, Brad finally got credit for an intercep-

Next week’s homecoming will renew the great rivalry between the Bulldogs and the Bremen Lions. Bremen blanked Warsaw 6 to 0 last week and are still undefeated The visitors will get a look at Nappanee’s new beanies which, like the Packers, they wear during warmup. This year’s meet appears to be a wide open contest. Defending champion Warsaw will get stiff competition from most all the conference schools. Hardly any school can be rated out of competition but at this time it would appear that Bremen and Nappanee are the most likely to upset the Tigers. Rochester, Plymouth and Manchester all could be tough with some extra effort and closer grouping of their five scorers. Last year’s individual winner of the race was Rich Cross of Rochester in the time of 10:08. Rich has graduated. Rochester and Warsaw completely dominated the top five places last year. This year it appears that a real battle shapes up for individual honors between Walker of Bremen, Chokey of Nappanee, Mikesell or Norris of Rochester. The winning team will receive the conference trophy. The first three teams shall receive ribbons, and the first five individual fin-

Followers of the teams and boys are welcome to watch the race. B Team And Plymouth Play To Scoreless Tie The Nappanee B team traveled to Plymouth Saturday morning and were held to a scoreless tie. Coach Fred Squires gave praise to some of his men for their defensive play including Jerry Huff, Gary Pippenger, Tom Black and Rick Jenkins. Randy Croy and his brother each were responsible for intercepting Plymouth passes. The B team will host Bremen here this Saturday.
