Visn Etioster Not In Dictionary The Advance-News had a strange statement in last week’s issue which puzzled many readers. It said that the PTA had contributed S2OO toward the purchase of a portable visn etioster to be used by the school nurse. I Apparently some people don’t know what a visn etioster is. OthI ers looked at the article and surImised that the PTA probably got

a good bargain in only spending S2OO for one. Still others wonder how Mrs. Woodhams will make adequate use of it. Although the staff of the Ad-vance-News prides itself on its educational background, the proofreaders caught this only after the paper was all mailed. This spelling, they inforn: us, was just anew way to indicate that the PTA was contributing towards a vision tester. The editor of this newspaper will act as a first subject, because obviously he needs his eyes tested

Dear Mr. Editor: I would like to make a suggestion to the Wa-Nee School Board that they should make a few changes in the teachers at Nappanee, especially tyro I don’t want to mention their names. I’ve heard of girls being mistreated in Phys. Ed. when the teacher loses her temper. Maybe push a girl so hard that she falls down. Is this a Christian attitude for a teacher to take. Why don’t they get a few Christians to teach in this supposedly'Christian nation. Just Concerned Editor Nappanee Advance-News Dear Sir: When you discuss the School Board the way you did last week, you cause controversy which is dangerous. You invite communities to line up against communities. The School Board is a dedicated group of fine men who have been laboring to give us an educational program worthy of the whole district. They have relied on authorities to tell them what is right. If you had taken the trouble to find out, you would know that Ihe present school board favors a long range program which embodies what is best for both cities within the district. For you to imply that the Board members haven’t indicated how they 9tand would demonstrate that you have not discussed the matter with any of

them. :. . I’d prefer that you do not use my name. , - NAME WITHHELD Editor Advance-News You’ve done it again. Just to get a few more subscriptions, you try to start trouble. Let you know that we won’t buy your paper any more (even though we like the ads.) What do you think you can gain by suggesting that we move every thing into Nappanee? Far better people than you have already told us what to do and where to build a proper school. A board member told us they’ve already bought land for it. There are more things of importance than basketball and bands. The proper education of our children is the most important. Your emphasis cn sports and concerts shows how you feel. A Board member said you aren’t welcome at their meetings, and we hope that’s right. A PARENT (Editor’s note: We checked to be sure. No land has been bought or even contemplated. Board members always have had to put up with the press as a necessary evil, but this particular Board has been most cordial.) What most adult Americans could profit greatly from is an undeveloped invention that could be named a retrospectroscope.
