Concert Shows ,targe Amount Os Talent & Ability Parents and friends of the Nap"”panee 'bands were treafted to a top rate concert Friday night. Bands .under the direction of Mr. Fred Webb are capable of more challenging repertoires than the normal bands on junior high or high school levels, and they always seem to perform with more than the usual amount of perfection. A welcome addition was Bob and Best’s program notes which gave e the audience .more appreciation of * ,! the numbers played. * 2 > The Wind Ensemble, which does most of its practicing at 7 a.m., began with a rousing Sousa selection, the little known “Belle of Chicago”. They included two Von ...•Weber selections, the last a concertino for clarinet and band, ably by Ron Foeckler as so,j.loist. The Symphonic Band started out with a crashing Afiame by Cacavas. ‘ Their versatility was demonstrated j with the lovely 3rd movement from K-Urahms Symphony 2. During their 1 rendition of Anderson’s “The Phanjctom Regiment”, a gentle tapping of ; sleet on the gym roof provided a accompaniment. The overjiture from* Bye Bye Birdie was lots iv©f fun, and the theme from Lawrence of Arabia made one want to [Umount his camel and dash across the Sahara. The Cadet Band was unusually • good for their age group. They performed the Red Jackets March (by Frank, the Silvery Waves Waltz, by Hummel, and Whistler’s Columbiana Overture with considerable finesse. fe Then came tne Varsity Band. B jThis group, also demonstrating versatility, ably did the Hand Grenade ;T March by Weeks, the Lyceum Over ,4ure by Taylor, and Carter’s Poly- [ phonic Suite, the last of which included changes in mood from Motet 5 to Chorale to Madrigal. The program was adequately . concluded by the popular and cap--1 new uniforms. They did Tea for } able Stage Band in their handsome } Two, Take Five, and Intermission “Riff, all of which had the audience “tapping its collective feet. v RUMMAGE SALE The Womens Association of the Presbyterian Church are having a rummage sale in the church base-
