and television series, moving about engaged in various activities. Fred Flintstone .was there riding on a big dinosaur and Wilma was rolling out dough for berry pies. Even little Pebbles, their cute baby girl, shook a necklace of dinosaur teeth while the newest character in the , series, Bam-Bam, stood by to guard her! Re* cently the family unexpectedly got ! the chance to see Larry on televisj ion when they were able to tune in a North Carolina basketball game in which he played as center for his team. Larry and his southern wife are expected in cold, cold Nappanee this Friday and will be home until December 28. Dr. Paul Bourne and his wife flew home from Delray Beach, Florida, oh Wednesday to attend funI eral services for his father, Sam I Bourne. Over the weekend they' returned to Florida where Paul is a practicing physician. The Everett Pippen Jr.’s had their daughter and family, the Dick Wengers, in for Sunday dinner and a belated birthday celebration for Pat. Friday the 13th was the actual birthday date an honor Pat shared with Mrs. Ira Dunham, who also observed her birthday on a traditionally unlucky day this year. Another birthday celebrant this week was Mrs. Bunk Widmoyer. We arrived for an early dinner at the restaurant Sunday just in time to see a half eaten birthday cake and a stack of gifts being whisked put, of the way before the dinner arrived. Young Clark Widmoyer kept saying, “It’s my birthday too” but it wasn’t this time! Chicago was the destination of the Bob Coppes and Don Nichols over the week-end. They spent Saturday in the windy city and enjoyed the hit production “Camelot” on Saturday evening.

1 had several requests for one of my holiday recipes after entertaining here last week so will include it in the column for those who want to do some experimenting with a new idea. My husband says he can’t stand cranberries but he loves this frozen concoction! Maybe some of you would like to try it out on members of your family who think they don’t like cranberries either. It is ap easy recipe to make and can be either served as a salad, on lettuce with assorted crackers, or as a sherbet type dessert. I especially like it as a light dessert after a big traditional holiday dinner!
CRANBERRY CREAM 8 oz. package cream cheese Half pint of whipping cream 3 tablespoons sugar % teaspoon vanilla 1 pound can whole cranberry sauce Whip the cream cheese and cream together until thickened. Beat in sugar and vanilla. Add cranberry sauce and put in ice cube trays to freeze. I’ve been surprised how enthusiastically my recipes have been received. I guess most of us hpusewives like to try out new ideas occasionally I know I dp! There will be lots of family gettogethers next weekend and on Christmas Day. Our readers would be interested in hearing your holiday plans, so won’t some of you let me know your news? I’ll be hoping for some phone calls soon, so why

AT THE LIBRARY There is nothing new about this book report, but we are sad that today’s young people are being exposed to Robert Benchley. Christmas time is often the time when people get out the Dickens Christmas Carol and read it aloud, although the horrible monster with the one big eye has even profaned that experience for youth by a cartoon character of questionable taste. However, another good Christmas story is Benchley’s ‘Hjld Fashioned Christmas” in which the family is all bundled off to see Grandpa and Grandma in East Russet, Vermont.
Benchley found dubious pleasure in sleeping in one of the extra beds in a bedroom where the temperature seldom got above freezing. He found that long afternoon after a big dinner one of the longest in the year and one of the dullest. Benchley’s Treasurer's Report is another classic which is repeated with less exaggeration in hundreds of committee meetings in Nappanee and elsewhere every year. We were delighted to find that one of the Nappanee High School textbooks included an essay by Benchley. If parents want ,to get their offspring going on some good humor to replace the rather insipid fare they are being fed, why not encourage them to read a little Benchley and follow it up with a dessert of Thurber? FIREHOUSE HATCHERY —3 bantam hens, were in a coop that fell from a truck near the Attica fire station early one morning. The coop broke open and the hens escaped but were quickly rounded up by two morning newspapers carriers who had gone to the station to pick up their papers. The boys obtained some string and tied the hens to the fire truck. A police officer, attracted by the hen’s cackling, investigated and found two of them had laid eggs. Read The Classifieds
