UNITED MISSIONARY NEWS Thursday, November 7, several ladies attended WMS Fall Rally at Bethel Church. In the morning election of officers was held, special music presented, then Rev. John Hamilton brought a graphic picture of the work among the Anglo-In-dians in the area of Adras, India. At noon we had the opportunity to chat with seldom seen fellow WMS’ers while eating sack lunches. Coffee and tea were served by the hostess church. At the afternoon session we were treated to a delightfully different missionary challenge by an African Christian now attending Bethel College, David Kowalowe. His message entitled simply, “Woman”, was interesting and conveyed the importance of our giving financial and prayer support to our missionaries, but sparked with humor and bursts of infectious laughter from our speaker. Sunday, November 10, was a Rally Day to remember. During Sunday School our Girls Chorus, directed by Mrs. Fred Hunsberger, sang, after which Tom and Alan Montgomery presented the Gospel in magic. At noon we had a carryin dinner at the Mennonite Hall and enjoyed more of the Gospel in magic. We enjoyed an equally interesting evening service. The past two Sundays were designated as Harvest Time, with the congregation bringing non-perish-able foods to church. Several ladies attractively and tastefully arranged a stair-step display in front of the pulpit, with pumpkins, corn, etc., placed effectively to create a bountiful harvest effect. The men wanted it known that this arrangement was not of their doing. (It seems there were a couple city slickers who helped and placed some corn stalks upside down in the making of a corn shock. The harvest was presented to retired missionaries Rev. and Mrs. Paul Ummel and daughter, Miriam. Rev. Ummel went to Africa in 1924, Mrs. Ummel in 1929. While on their way to the field in 1961 Rev. Ummel suffered a stroke and had to return to the states. Monday evening, putty knives and wire brushes were put to work by the MMF in the finishing up of the basement clean-up project. Thursday, November 14, the Stitchettes will meet in the home of Mrs. Peter Adams for the WMS sewing meeting.

The Sound of Music MANY years ago we recognized the importance of music in enhancing the beauty and underscoring the solemnity of the funeral service. Therefore, we have continued to steadily increase our musical library with recorded organ selections by talented artists. The contents of this library are available to those who wish to make music a part of the services for their loved ones, without any added charge. We hope to continue our accumulation of funeral service organ music for we greatly appreciate the many compliments we have received on our selections.
