Nichols, Jr. Lions Family Picnic Aug. 28 At their last meeting the Lions played host to two den mothers and three Cub Scouts of Nappanee Pack ?3, arranged by Lion Thurlo Clouse, program chairman. Mrs. Gene Hollar and Mrs. Beth Olsen gave brief talks on the duties of den mothers, and Clouse followed with some remarks on what the boys learn during Cubbing in preparation for advancing to Scouting when reaching age 11. There are 35 boys registered at the present time in Pack 33, compared to 58 last year. The drop in mebership is due to the boys reaching the Cubbing age limit, but Clouse was confident the number will again reach at least 50 this fall with anticipated new registrants. Clouse reminded the Lions that Pack 33 will have a Paper Drive Saturday, August 24th. Tom Kane is Cub Scout master, with Thurlo Clouse assistant master. The Lions are one of the sponsors of Pack 33. During the business meeting it was announced the annual Lions Family picnic will be held Wednesday August 28, 6:30 p.ni, at Syracuse Lake Park; the golf committee has not set a date yet for a golf outing but stated it probably will be held at Maxwelton Golf Course some Sunday in September. Lion Bag Pippen, who is on the Dip, Inc., committee, announced some Lions have volunteered to help solicit during the swimming pool fund drive, including Pat Sinclair, Bob Woodhams, Ronny Mason and Bill Efoststler. Lion Art Ziliak, local Ford dealer and breeder of Wiemeraners offered to donate one of his dogs to the Seeing Eye Foundation sponsored by the Lions. Ziliak stated Weimefaners are a very intelligent breed, easy to train and make excellent leaders for blind people. Pres. Forrest and the other Lions were very appreciative of this offer, and assured Ziliak the committee will be in contact with the foundation to learn if they are need of dogs for training at the present time. The energy released by an inch of rainfall falling on an acre of land would plow ten acres, if it could be harftfessed.

So you want reader reaction’ Now I have a legitimate excuse for saying what I’ve felt within for many months. This deals with feelings only and lias not taken into consideration facts, needs, economic advantage or the history behind this institution. I speak of the parking meter in Nappanee. This town is so warm and friendly, so helpful, so generous that the parking meter seems crudely out of keeping with the spirit of the place. I really don’t mind feeding the steel imp a few cents, but I abhor the hard symbolism it portrays in such a warm, friendly town.
