(45A) HISTORICAL MUSEUM A Scott County man, Albert Comer, at the age of three score and ten, took up the hobby of collecting items of the pioneer days in Hoosierland. In a few short years his collection has expanded until it overflows three separate buildings in a grove across the road from his farm five miles southwest of Scottsburg. Comer aaid he was fascinated by tales of his elders, some of them only one generation removed from the time when southern Indiana was a wilderness, so he began collecting relics of that era. Part of the collection is housed in a log cabin built around 1830. Comer bought the cabin, moved it from its previous site* and reconstructed it in his grove.

Free Hioter To Be Gotten With Right Key Kauffman’s Inc. has a brand new $139.00 circulating air heater padlocked in his store this week. It’s due to be given away to some farmer in this area who’ll receive a “Lucky Knipco Key” through the mail. If his key opens the lock, he’ll get the heater FREE. The prize heater is actually a little furnace on wheels that burns kerosene or fuel oil and circulates 75,000 BTU’s of heat per hour. It can be used inside or out without a vent and performs all kinds of heating chores on the farm. This unusual advertising stunt requires no jingles, no drawings or anything to buy. The only rules are that to try a “Knipco Key” you have to be 18 or over; only one try per person is allowed; and the first connect key wins the heater. While being run in cooperation with the manufacture (Knipco), the local mailing- has been sent only to a limited number of farmers in this' immediate arek. One of the folders mailed locally contains the “Lucky Knipco Key.” There are 3,000 separate contests scheduled the country with each dealer offering a> brand new heater FREE.

Two From City Attend Meeting Jim Stillspn and Robert Dean of Nappanee, Ind., attended a national meeting of Harvestore dealers and sales representatives at French Lick this week. The four day meeting, from November sth through November Bth, covered a comprehensive analysis of farm problems- and potentials and, according to Harvestore officials, '‘reflected- the company’s historic and long term objective of helping to improve the American farm economy. All phases of the program were tied to the central theme of the meeting, “How to make farming more profitable for the farmer.” The meeting was devoted chiefly to lectures and seminars by national authorities on such basic matters as farm management; farmstead planning; farm research in universities and on the farm, and beef, dairy and pork clinics. Letters From Our Readers Rocky Ford, Colorado November 4, 1061 Editor Advance News, Dear Sir, Please renew my subscription to the Advance News. It is our best source of home town news and we look forward to its arrival each Saturday. It may be interesting to compare notes on Halloween festivity. We didn’t experience the vandalisim that Nappanee and Elkhart County is noted for—not even soany windows “Trick or Treat” night here is limited to one night only, but look out for that one night! Hundreds of ghosts and goblins, from 2 to 20 are out in droves to collect goodies from house to house. We were fortunate in having only 80 visitors, due to our absence from home during a rush hour. Avery interesting night, but next year we’ll stock up on more oandy and cookies. Beat regards to all our friends in Nappanee. Mr. and- Mrs. Robert Newcomer 1201 Maple Ave Rocky Ford, Colorado MEAT BEAT On one of the hottest days of' the summer, two Boonville sisters, Karen Jo and Debby Payne, gave a “Beat the Heat” party, a feature of which was a snowball fight. Last winter, when Boonville had a big snow, the Payne sisters conceived the party. They shoveled up a lot of snow and put it in the family’s deep freeze. When it came time, for the party, they fashioned snowballs. They even had enough snow to build, a snow , man but it didn’t last long.

SCHOOL NOTES Tha Strength of My Will Bower Rebecca Kessens. freshmen Esther Hoover, teacher My will power has been tested many times during exams. I have the urge to sneak a look at another test, especially when the test paper is right next to me. One incident occurred when I was taking, a test. I happened to glance over at my- neighbor’s paper. Right there I saw the answer I wanted. I didn’t put it down be* cause 1 knew that would be cheat, ing. I would be cheating not only the teacher by myself, also. This is just one of the many times I have had to test my will power on tests. My will power is tested every night when I do my homework. I have to decide whether to finish my homework or to watch television. The television usually wins unless I am going to have a test
