NIPSCO BRINGS GAS TO CROMWELL Natural gas began flowing in the new Cromwell distribution system on Sept. 28, according to James D. Breed, manager of Northern Indiana Public Service Company’s Goshen district. The first Cromwell customer to receive the new fuel was John T. Debrular on N. Main St. “Construction, which begun last July has been completed, and both the transmission system and the distribution system have been tested and approved for service,” Breed said. “The distribution system, consisting of approximately 1 mile of 4” pipe, and two miles of 2” pipe, was completed early in September.” Bringing natural gas service to
the people of Cromwell is part of a nexpansion program now being carried on by NIPSCO, Breed continued, that will supply natural gas for the first time to more than 35 cities and towns in northern Indiana. The expansion program was made possible by anew, large supply of natural gas recently obtained from NIPSCO’S pipeline suppliers. Chief Clark Retires From Army Thirty years service with the Army Corps of Engineers completed, E. W. Clark of Chesterton, Ind., retired Oct. 1 as Chief of the Bong Termination Branch of the
Chicago Army Engineer District. Clark and his wife, the former Florence Gilliam, of Leesburg, Ind., will move in about two weeks to Warsaw, where they will make their future home. They have resided in Chesterton since 1955. The District’s Bong Termination Branch, initiated almost two years ago to carry out the multiplicity of tasks attendant on the closing of the half-completed Air Force base near Kenosha, Wise, late in 1959, was officially abolished Oct. 1. Vv Clark was born in Morocco, Ind. in 1907, the son of Charles Clark, 92, who now lives in Leesburg and the late Mrs. Clark. He was graduated from Purdue University in 1929 with a degree in civil engineering.
In Warsaw, Clark will again be associated with the Laminated Rafter Cos., this time on a parttime basis as a consulting engineer. And for fun, he’ll have many hours to cruise the “wild blue yonder" in his Piper Tri-pacer airplane, a hobby he began when he took up flying in 1939. SCARCE ITEMS MORE VALUABLE: Most of the items found buried in graves of American Indians are from areas far away often, from Rocky Mountains, (grizzley bear’s teeth), from Florida (certain sea shells), or from Michigan (hunks of raw copper). Daniel Boone, as a young man, worked at road building for a short time, for 33 cents per day.
