SEAT BELTS WOULD SAVE 5,00 ft LIVES ANNUALLY Highway slaughter last year took 37,800 lives in the U. S. and a total of 1,400,000 persons were injured seriously. In Indiana, more than 1,000 persons died in the highway slaughter. Crash studies show conclusively the safety belts worn by motorists would have saved 5,000 lives and cut serious injuries by half. Twenty-one states now require all state-owned cars to have safety belts. Doctors have been asked to equip their cars with safety belts and to talk them up with patients. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pletcher sr. were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Huffman and daughter, Donnabelle of Atwood.
