Government Has No Funds; Federal Aid Is Myth A foreward written by Lyle H Munson' in 'the new book, to be oublislhed Nov. 23, called “The John Franklin Letters” contains some 'plain talk, on tax problems. He Writes: “Ours is a nation enfeebled by political maternalism. Our voters have been conditioned to vote themselves liargess out of the public treasury - to rely upon government to provide them jobs, security .ease. “But government cannot give of itself; What government gives to one- either an individual or a pressure group - it must take from others. And the public treasury is guarded only by the public conscience. “If the public conscience tolerates taking from some, to give to others, grasping men will exploit the frailty. Qur politicians have done so. “Both parties in Washington are distinguished by men who seek to give their constituency what that constituency wants: tax money, which has been taken from someone else's pocket. “A public which makes such demands upon its officials precludes esponsible me n holding public office. That those in Washington .an compromise with, atheistic communism is not surprising. To oppose it would require vigor and sacrifice on the part of their eonjcituents. “A continuation of this atmosphere can only bring disaster - in two years, or five, or ten. “Out of this disaster, perhaps we will rebound to be a great naiton, for we are yet young enough „a.c in our memory the case history of our forebears who wanted nothing from government save a forum in which to arrive at ma-jo-ity agreement. “Let each man who takes money from his government understand:

he takes it not from my government; he takes it from me -and you. “The authors of the John Franklin Letters have projected >a curve. The curve is tending downward. The writing is fact and fear. Not until 1939 will we know how much of it is fiction.” Make Feeders Now To Help Winter Birds by Frank A. White Indiana is full of bird lovers, as response to HOOSIER DAY columns on the subject proves to me. Our woodland and orchard is a stopping off station for birds that go north in spring and south in winter. A half acre of lawn had a starling to every square foot currently. Luckily the starlings keep going. Outside my window this morning, in a small evergreen, was a beautiful cardinal with a top knot. The cardinals remain all winter. A large variety of birds will remain over winter if they can find enough to eat. For all too long we have depended on makeshift feeders for our winter visitors. Often they are lids f rom garbage cans on a stump. They are raided by squirrels who should be abed and by dogs. There is nothing more fascinating on a snowy day than to see a "lock of birds feeding in your yard. Last winter, I unwittingly killed several fine birds, by giving them moulded grain from a previous season. This would be a lonely world without our birds. They eat enough nsects and weed seeds to make hem a most valuable ally to mankind. Before it gets too cold, how about building permanent feeding platform for the birds for this winter? t. is not difficult to find the ma"v'l and does not take too much time.

PANIC CAUSES DEATHS - There has been a rash of fatal accidents where drivers get the right wheels off the road pavement and yank too hard on the steering wheel to correct the mistake. If your right wheels run off the edge of a pavement do not try to yank them back at high speed. Slow the speed, watch for ears behind, then cut wheels sharply to the left, to get back on the pavement. When falling cracks on a surface to be painted, mix powdered crack-filler with paint instead of water. Apply to crack and level off diagonally with knife edge. Is a ready-made dress a little snug in the bodice? If the bodice has darts in the back, convert them to gathered fullness at the waistline seam. A person needs to be clever to get out of spots his stupidity gets him into.
