HOLIDAY B'BALL TOURNEY WON BY PLYMOUTH
By Bob Mitchell Favored Plymouth walkel off with their own holiday tourney •trophy by defeating Coach Young’s improved Bulldogs 39-34 in- the championship game. Bulldogs played their best^ I game of the season by extending the big and slick Pilgrims all the way and it took a sterling pOTr forma nee by Plymouth’s Steve Yoder to pull the game out of the fire. Yoder hit 9 field goals and 5 free throws for 24 points and was easily the outstanding player of the tourney. HIT 2 OUT OF 10 Inaccuracy at the charity stripe also. Jed to the Bulldogs downfall as they hit only 2 of 10 charity chances. Led by Yoder’s sou-r field goals, the Pilgrims grabbed a 17-12 finst quarter lead, but the Bulldogs ralli-edr and in the waning minutes-' of the second quarter took a 24-23 lead on Nu-nemaiker’s jump shot. But pesky little Yoder came back with two free throws to give Plymouth a 25-24 lead at halftime. In the first half, Nap hit a fine 41 percent on 12 of 29 field goal attempts, and Plymouth tallied 10 of 37 for 27 percent. ' SLOWER TEMPO The tempo slowed down considerably in the second half as both teams played for the good shots. •• Hamsher’s free throw tied- it 27-27 jnidway thru the third period, but Plymouth held a 31-27 advantage going into the final period. Yoder wjas hard to handle in the early part of the fourth quarter and Plymouth had a 39-34 lead with 2:09 remaining. Both teams had chances to score in the last two minutes but were not able to connect and the game ended with the scoreboard still reading 39-34. BEAT BREMEN FIRST In first round action, Nappanee beat Bremen 39-35 and Plymouth easily defeated Warsaw 60-36. Bremen salvaged some laurels by winning the consolation game from Warsaw, 46-41 for their first 'jjrin in eight games. Warsaw dropped its sixth defeat in ten games.
