SEVENTH ANNUAL SALE BY SWINE BREEDERS ASSN. OCTOBER 18 TH The Elkhart County Swine Breeders’ Association will hold their Seventh Annual All-breed Pure-bred Boar & Open Gilt sale at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds, Goshen, Indiana, Wednesday, October 18th. These “Show Window” sales sponsored by this organization, have come to be looked upon as an excellent place to buy herd improving breeding stock, and fully realizing the fact, the consigning breeders dig deep into ther herds and consign some of their very best animals, even though they know that in am auction the buyers set the price and they will quite likely get less than they would get if sold privately at their respective farms. On first thought, this might seem unwise for a breeder to sacrifice on one or more of his outstanding animals but advertising is the answer. It is considered that this “Show Window” advertising coupled with the newspaper advertising and publicity, more than offsets the sacrifice in price of the animals sold. The Elkhart County Swine Breeders’ Association also sponsors many 4-H Club activities in addition to holding their-annual “Show Window” sales. The amount the Association voted for 4-H Pig Club activities in 1950 was $200.00 Present officers of the Association are: President, Loyal Stuckman, Nappanee Ind.; Vice Pres., Harvey S. Weaver, Wakarusa; Secretary, J. W. Weybright, Syracuse and Treasurer, Robert Wilson, Millersburg. CHILD STUDY CLUB TO MEET ON MONDAY WITH MIRIAM STUMP The Child Study Club will meet at the home of Mrs. Miriam Stump on Monday, Oot. 9th. Response to roll call will be, “A Recent Book I’ve Enjoyed.” Mrs. June Moser will give a book review. There will be a reading of our club constitution. v Gas Pipe \The first use of wrought iron gat pipe, lined with paper, to contain electrical wires, occurred in 1894. The iron conduit was superior in strength to its predecessors, and fhraaded joints made it mechanical* ly secure.
