A daughter, Lucille Mae, weighing eight pounds and eleven ounces was born on Saturday, Feb. 7 toMr. and Mrs. Harry Burkey in Elkhart. Mr. Burkey was formerly of Locke, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Burkey of Bristol. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hofler who live on the George Kent farm south of Wakarusa have purchased the twenty acre farm of Mrs. Sarah Clouse located about three forth mile north 'of the Locke school. WAKARUSA MARSHALL IS ' CALLED TO ARREST MAN FOR STEALING TRACTOR A call by Frank Parcell to Marshall Christ Wise, of Wakarusa early Sunday morning caused the m. -shal to “almost” arrest a man on a charge of theft of his own tractor. Carlisle Hunsberger, of northwest of Nappanee, called his uncle, Melvin Hunsberger, after midnight Sunday morning, asking him if he would bring his tractor and pull Carlisle’s car from. snow and mud where he was mired down in a field-. His uncle went to the Parcell farm, where, he *keeps the tractor, but as it was so late at night he went directly to the barn and started the engine and pulled away on the rescue trip. Parcell hearing the tractor, immediately called the Wakarusa marshal to report the theft of the machine, showing he was a good watchdog, but in this case his interest went for naught, other than to warn Mr. Hunsberger he had better use a different method of obtaining his machine. Wise sent his deputy, Chester Harrington to investigate. SERVICE GUILD OF METHODIST CHURCH TO MEET ON MONDAY Members of the Service Guild of the Methodist church will be entertained on Monday evening, Feb. 16th at the home of Melba O’Neal. Miss Alberta Lopp will be the assisting hostess. Devotions for the evening will be given by Phyllis Walters. Mrs. Lowell Roose will be the leader. Mr. Crowe, who has been ill for the past couple of weeks is improving. Dr. Russel L. Bolyard of Nappanee, president of the North Central Indiana zone of the Indiana Association of Optometrists, attended a seminar session of the association at the Hotel Severin in Indianapolis Sunday. Dr. Carl F. Shepard of Chicago, research professor of Northern Illinois College of Optometry, led the discussions morning and afternoon with “Optometry’s Part in Defense” as the subject. MRS. REBECCA FIELDS DIES AT ELKHART FOLLOWING OPERATION Mrs. Rebecca Fields, 70, the widow of Daniel L. Fields, a retired Elkhart policeman who died Dec. 16, 1939, passed away in the Elkhart General hospital at 9:45 o’clock Sunday night, . a week following a major operation. The funeral was held Wednesday at 2 o’clock at thfe Church of the Brethren, in Elkhart, of which the deceased was a member, with burial in Rice cemetery. Mrs. Fields was born Jan. 19, 1872; at Locke, Ind., the daughter of John and Anna (Peters) Smith. Her marriage to Mr. Fields took place in Wakarusa on Aug. 4, 1889. Surviving are a son, Forrest A. Fields: a daughter, Mrs. Harvey Schalliol, both of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; four, great-grand-children; five brothers, Joe Smith of Billings, Mont., Charles of Silv&, N. D., James of Mishawaka, Ed of Cando, N. D., and William of route 5, Goshen, and a half-brother, John Wallace of route 4, Goshen. One grandson, James E.
