FARMERS-BANKERS VISIT FARMS OVER COUNTY A caravan of 25 automobiles, carrying farmers, bankers, newspaper men find agricultural experts, nuriberirig close to 40 made the farmerbanker tour of Elkhart county last Thursday. The object of the tour, which, was under the 'direction of C, B. Blosser. Elkhart county agricultural agent, who acquainted the bankers and business men with the projects being undertaken by Elkhart county farmers. From Goshen the caravan moved to the Allen Smoker farm, southeast Oil the Lincoln highway. The Second stop was at the S. fi. Weaver Tarrii. also east of Goshen on the Lincoln' highway. From the. Weaver farm thf men went, to tie Tobe Ash farm, four miles north of M’itidleh-ery, ~ At noon the tour stopped at M ■ dlebury where a big dinner was served in the high school gymnasium. The V. V. Clark orchards, two miles south of Bristol, was the first stop of the afternoon. Front there the men went to tile Herbert Kilmer farm, two miles southwest' of J uptown. During the tour the men inspected farms along the' route. Edward A. St rope of the Farmers Loan and Trust company, and Ed Pippengef and Christ I'ntbaugh. of north of town, made the tour. . Wisehart, state superintendent ol public instruction. Graduation requirements are: English, 3 'units.;-, citizenship, 1 unit; U. S. history, 1 unit; elective social study, 1 unit; mathematics, 1 unit; science, 1 unit; health education, 1 unii: elective from program of studies, 7 units. Although five courses in English are offered, only three ate required tor graduation. Biology and physics are suggested as the sciences to be offered by the smaller schools, with chemistry added where there is a demand and file school can afford to equip a laboratory. Botany and zoology are other subjects recommended for the science group in larger schools. r Miss Alice Abell, of this dity, was a member of Prof Erengen’s class at 1. I", summer school and assisted in making out the revised course for the I-atiir department of high schools.
ELKHART MEN BUY GOODS OF WARSAW BANKRUPT STORE . The stork, and fixtures of Dickey & Soils, of Warsaw, lias been purchased by Cohen & Hor wick, of Elkhart. present owners of the Quality Shoe Store. The purchase price was $7,620. The stock was listed as worth $13,279, and was appraised at $5,100. The new owners have not announced their plans but it was intimated by the receiver lor the store, that the store would be 'opened soon and operated at the present location. Seven other sealed bids were received, all of them lower than the purchase figure. BOURBON HOTEL SOLD TO COLUMBIA CITY MAN The Colonial hotel, the chief structure in the business district of Bourbon. changed hands this week when it was sold to Lee Price, of Columbia City.
