Director Willis advises that encore numbers will contain many popular airs, selections’from musical bits, *4c. The Dodge band is. ideally organized to appear under the auspices of the American Legion as it s' understood that sixty five per cent of its nemocrship fought in either the Spanish. American or World war. A number were wounded in action. The director, ('apt. Willis, has a lon-g military ,record and bears an enviable reputation as a band leader. PLETCHER-STAHLEY A pretty home wedding occurred at 8 o'clofih on last Thursday evening a( the home of Daniel Stahley north of Nappanee, when. , his daughter. Miss Ida, -was united in marriage to Miles Fletcher of Goshen.-. Hey. I. R. Detwiler of GosJjen college,performed the; ceremony in the presence of the immediate families. The bride was attired in a white satin gown and carried a bouquet ot roses. She was attended by Mrs. Celeste Fletcher, and M. S. Fletcher, the bridegroom’s brother, was best man. Miss Grace Sleile played the wedding march. Following the ceremony ji two course luncheon was si nod. After a short wedding trip to Illinois the couple will reside on a farm west of Goshen. Mr. Fletcher was a student at Goshen college this winter and was a college sophomore . while the bride was a sales clerk at fhe.RmgenburgLape store for the past two years. KENDALLVILLE MAN IN JAIL; DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED John Gravatt of Kendallville, is. fn the county Jail at Goshen., charged with driving his automobile while intoxicated, on a warrant sworn out bv Chief of Police John E. Rigney, Gravatt Was driving from Mishawaka, to his home and had as passengers a niece and her two daughters. The niece was injured but was able to return to Mishawaka at noon. As he w-as coming into Goshen on Chicago avenue Gravatt lost control of'his car and drove off ' the street - into tire ditch. When arrested his mind was -lia7.v-.fmni the-effects of the liquor and the police were unable to get'any kind of statement from him except that he Insisted that someone had run into him and pushed him off the road. The police doubt,this story. Gravatt . was arraigned in the court of Justice of the Peace S, S. Whisler Monday.
Nine in, One Car i While returning from a meeting at Rensberger school about 9:30 Friday evening, a Ford car driven by Jacob ASwihart'of north of Goshen turned over at the east approach to-the-Lin-qoln avenue bridge over Rock Run creek. - Mr. and Mrs.. Swihart and a grandchild, Earl Sample, occupied the front seat and Mrs.. Elmer Eaton and five children were in the . tonneau. Mrs. Swihart’s- shoulder was -dislocated and Mrs. Eaton and - Mr. Swihart. were bruised. ESTIMABLE LADY PASSED AWAY MONDAY MRS* P. D. BURGENER DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS. Funeral At Methodist Church This Thursday Afternoon and Interment at Plymouth. ’ • Mrs. P. D. Burgener passed-away -Monday- morning at their home cm N. Madison at the age of .57 years; 9 months and 21 days. Mrs Burgener had been confined to her home for some time. While the serious nature of her illness was known to her many friends, strong hopes, had been dhtertained' until the past few' days that. f she might improve and enjoy comfortable health for some years to eomp. Mrs. Burgener was a most -estimable lady and combined the fine graces that characterize . Christian wifehood and motherhoOd in a char, acter of unusual beautj She was a JnyaL.and devoted member of “the Methodist church, Home and Foreign Missionary societies, W, C. T. U., Pythian Sisters and Thursday club, and while a greater share of her time was occupied with domestic duties, she found time to tal ■ an active part in church work as well as the charitable and philanthropic/ work of the community. During the world war' she took a leading part with the ladies of Nappanee. in the work that was done here. While of a quiet and retiring disposition, she will be -missed -by a large circle of. friends and acquaintances who had long admired her many fine- qualities. Mrs. Burgener was burn June 7, 1853, in Marshall county. !nd„ and was the only daughter of David, and Catherine Garn of Plymouth, Her early life was spent in and near' Plymouth until she ’fitenio ’ with her husband to . reside in Nappanee about 18 years ago. Besides her husband. Mrs. Burgener is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fred Geibel of Wabash, "and four brothers —J. F. Gam, A :os; S. A, Garn, Soutlrßend; F. E. and, Ira M. Many of the complex and difficult conditions of the present time are understood when first hand information-fs obtainable.
