JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER.
LAND BELONGS 10 IHECHRISTIAN THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH, SAYS BIBLE. <■ S ; " J] I THEY ALL MADE EXCUSE One Had Bought Land—Another Had Bought Oxen —Still Another Had Married a Wife. Twelve, boys organized for personal ’ work. They were presented to the audience by Dr. Hobson who commended them in their work, and the people cheered. A praise meeting was held before the sermon; conducted by Rev. Albright. It was a bright strong message of the living epistles. Read and know of men. There were three new converts reported from the-afternoon meetings. In speaking before the sermon, Dr. Hobson said, “Why don’t you give your soul the same commercial sense that you do other things? There’s not a Christian who has stood by you and said lam an angel. All say we’re sinners saved by grace.” A -large number pledged for personal work. His instructions were, lay siege on the soul and let’s drive the enemy from the county-seat of the life. You say I don’t like to come Cos the altar, neither does the devil, he never comes there, neither do his kinfolks. The subject for the evening was “A Square Deal” and this is how he dealt it out to us. “I wish we had a law that would compel the gambler, the harlot, the saloonkeeper to feed their own offspring. Men will spend their last nlckle for drink, then beg Christians for food. The land belongs to the Christian, the Bible says, “The righteous shall inherit the earth.” A Chinaman was greatly surprised that all did not accept the invitation to the feast. The Chinese always pay their debts before their New Year’s feast. I suspect the merchants are saying, “I wish we had anew year about every three months.” They made excuse, they did not have any. Brother, sister, take your pencil and write your excuse and give it to God, if you have a legitimate one. One man’s failure in business does not keep others from becoming business men, neither.should this hold in religion. Notice the llimsy excuses. “I bought some land,” this feast was at night, see the man going out* at night to look at it: and live yoke of oxen, had to try them: the thing you have been hiding behind. I wish you would please excuse me, we’re just married and don't want to go to a feast. Many are called but few are chosen. Now you say you are not choses). You are invited but fail to chose, die who rejects the meal is the loser, lie spites his own soul. God has Spread the feast, Ho does not need anything that you have grown in your sin garden. He does not need any of your morality. Come bringing no good things of your own. Colne just as you are. Men and women in sin. Jesus paid the price that you might enjoy the-good things of this splendid feast of love. He calls us, He’ll help us if we help ourselves* The banquet is set, the waiters here to help yciu. The gift of God to lost man. -A large number came-fonvard*’ and wfcre saved. YKOM MONDAY'S. DAILY.-' ILceedeep In righteousness. Satur-
day afternoon was very largely attended, by far the largest afternoon meeting. Dr. Hobson’s subject at this meeting was Temptation. There is a tidal move coming trp from the south in righteousness and temperance and it has struck Nappanee above the knee, His text was “Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” This was most clearly presented in the story of the rabbit hunt, which was doubly loaded with Gospel truth. I would rather be a crippled Christian fleeing from the devil, than so dead in sin He did not feel any concern. SATURDAY NIGHT. Dr. Robstm spoke from the text, “Lost." One word, a short word/ but a long eternity. “If He find it.” I want to swing the red flag of danger before you. “Os bow much more value is a man than a sheep.” Sin loves darkness. There are morg sins committed after twelve at-nlght until dawn than all the Other hours. The lowest form that stands on two legs is a man who will take in booze while his wife takes in washing. He then gave a most thrilling presentation of Christian politics. I believe in equality. Taxation without representation is unconstitutional. Jesus always used the common things to show the mysteries of the Kingdom. Men become famous who preach the simple way, those who meet men on a common ground, get at the thing he talks about. People talk moreahout dogs than they do about Jesus. It is the nature of sin to steal the keener sense away. Sin grapples with the sinner like a bird of prey. I do not feel like you are so dead that you have no manhood any more. Won’t, you help yourself. I cannot understand how hell can so encompass us that we can’t feel. O, while manhood is enthroned don’t mock God! The lost are past feeling. Sinner don’t he deceived. Sin will keep you in your old beat, walking in the circle, thinking you know the way home, when each time you return to the point from which you start. SUNDAY MORNING. The church is oDe of the best things oh earth. There are some people who do not care to have a hopie, they are tramps. There is one thing on which we all agree: we ought tc do right. We say by our actions' and transactionsthat we want to live a Christian life. The theme of this service was the uplift and the outlook. “In the morning I will look up.” - When you want to look for dirt look down. When you want to look for blessiDgs look contrast of Daniel’s uplook while in the lion’s den was made with Jacob’s outlook when he deceived his brother. _ Daniel was victorious, Jacob fled to tbe mountains. Sin never letsyou 'restTTt takes something' more than sin to get back. Jacob was a coward, sin makes us cowards. *- ♦ 1 Abraham’s outlook was npt so good as Lot’s but he looked up to the bills and all that he saw becathe his. The reason you cannot sefe anymore is tjjat you are so low down. If you would see more, climb the bills of Glory. Above the fog is perpetual sunshine. When John was banished to Partimus he had a wet outlook but he gives us a look into heaven, he brought us the Revelations. God always puts His blessings within our reach. He puts His warnings on a level with the one warned. The King saw the hand writing on tbe wall, the woman who was a sinner, saw the writing on the ground. Stephen’s last outlook was discouraging but as be was stoned to death “looking up he saw Heaven opened.” ' - This service closed with a welcome, to the new converts and a general handshake. SUNDAY EVENING. The song service at the Auditorium was one grand hallelujah, and the selections of songs gave a beautiful picture of the developement of soul life. "” >s \ Dr. Hobson spoke from Psalms 66th chapter, 13th verse, “I wilk pay my vows now in the great congregation.” Vows, pledges, promises'. There are two kinds of fear, one prompted by dread the other by love. The mad houses are tilled largely by women, Wfcose .minds have been wrecked becauseof broken vows, broken promises. The penitentaries hold a different class, there are-thirteen-women taone thousand men. When a promise is broken a woman grieves until her mind is consumed, while a man becomes angry, dashes into crime, and lands in the prison. It Is one thing to be ashamed, another to repent, .conversion is reversion. 1 would to God that all might keejUJlirpledge to the departed ones. Those who are inrtbe city of the silent. The God who has power to create hat power to keep that which he^ias
Created. The desire for drink He has takeu away from men after forty years of crime. Men break with sin, and make good your vows. Don’t lie to the dead, make good tbe promise you. gave. The number of the saved grows and tbe interest increases. During the past two evenings there has been onefourtbas many as all previous j meetings. The work us theEk>>sand girls is the most beautiful sceneof personal work and its reward. FROM SATURDAY’S DAILY. Friday was a day of prayer, not an hour of prayer, bub several of,them. The workers gathered at ten o’clock and coatinued until four thirty without-. ceasing, and met again at seven and worked until eleven thirty, worked for those for whom they had been praying. There were twenty-three public confessions of sin and prayers for pardon. There was a time when parents brought their children to Jesus, last night they came together and found salvation. The program which appeared with the announcement was given with only one change. The last number was to be conducted by Rev. Clayton, who was prevented by illness. At ten the song and praise service interspersed with prayer. Rev. Smith took for his theme, the effect of receiving the Holy Spirit is fundamental. It starts in the life on earth and reaches out beyond the grave into the eternal. He spoke of soul rest: harmony with God. Os assurance, of God’s testimony concerning Job, of boldness, courage and fullness of joy. After singing “Fill Me Now,” Rev. Rand spoke on “The Baptism of the Holy Spirit.” “This baptism manifests itself as love, as rest of faith.” He spb£e also of the mistakes concerning this baptism and what it implies. Rev, Weidner spoke on the perils of life and how to meet temptation, on heart consecration, and the strategy of the soldier of Christ and how to useit. “By serving others we get victory - . Watch,..be Always at your best. Prayer gives strengthen: overcomes.” yourselves like men, be strong.” The noon hour was lead by Dr. Hobson with soul food as tbs theme. He said the only one who cannot eat is the dyspeptic, it pain. If any havfe*%> leave early we invite-you to the first table. We’ll all stay and get a full meal. The bee gets honey by going all around and gathering and bringing all together. Then followed a season of feasting on Qod's promises. The relish, thinking, felsting*, nourishment; the bread, the fountain and all the good things of the kingdom until we were lost in the banquet of love with no desire tp find a way out. Rev. Hobson gave tfie story of the song, “No Not One,” after the singing of which Miss Caraway brought the homes of Jesus. Having no home of his own hecomes as a guest. He lived in other’s liomes. She gave us word pictures of the places she had visited, where Jesus was born, where- he was brought up, where he went fishing, the wedding he attended, the funerals, and lives he restored to loved ones, Mary’s precious offering and its reception. “Break open the, alabaster box of your soul, it contains the attar of roses.” Rev. Albright spoke on the uplift. How God lifts us up. The feast of the Lord is complete. “The Lord fills, shakes down, presses down, and lets men run over.” He that humbleth himself shall be exalted. He exalts. Mrs. Rand spoke on “The Leaven of the Kingdom of Heaven” bringing the mysteries of spiritual into the most common things of life with a simplicity that brought food in the reach of all. ___■ Rev. Fisher gave much that was bright and cheerful. His message was helpful and all present were willing to share the Christ joy which beamed from the face of the speaker, and carry it to others. Mr. Small conducted the remaining numbers of the program. The love feast continued, the spirit of the noon hour, aud mauy who could not be present before gave testimony to the love of God and the service closed with a consecration service. He gave a beautiful tribute to the mother whose life had been the light of his pathway and of how her spirit from the Heavenly home prompted him to offer his life in the work of an evangelist. The spirit of prayer tilled the service throughout. It was a mount of transfiguration. EVENING MEETING. The attendance was larger and the interest was greater than the previous meetings. We felt it in song and testimony. The numbers are not only from Nappanee and surrouudingcountry but other cities are represented. The message was he that is not with me is against me. If we deny He will deny us, if we confess, He is faithful and just to receive. This becomes a personal question, what will you do with Jesus?- There is another, what will Jesus do with you? "Young man, be careful how you live. Inherited diseases are the result of sin. The innocent suffer forour meanness. The Jews said His blood be upon us and our children. Unto this day they are’eursed and persecuted in
• every land. Ma#i, for God’s sake don’t pray that prayer in Nappanee. We have no right to reject Jesus. We use His name on our letter heads In business, walk by the Ught.of His sunshine, breathe the . air. He came into the world not to condemn It, He came to save. I’ll give you rest. He blessed the people in multitudes. They were willing to be fed but not tp receive Him into their homes. I cannot understand why thoughtful men and women can fall to receive Him who lias done nothing but good things. Why the angels came to welcome Him, won’t you? Just take a review of your life. Are you as happy as you used to be? “Bud Robinson” said God never even mentioned his mean kin folks to him. All carpenters belong to a class, all sinners belong to the same crowd. They are gradations but all are sinners. They can claim you because you do not step out from their crowd. Please God, sister, I’d break company with them and leave them tonight. He that Is not with me is against me. Assert your rights, turn and flee. He holds us if we put our trust in Him. Which gives you soul satisfaction. Dr. Hobson closed with a warning cry to young women to make the question a personal one. NIGHTS OF UNREST. No Sleep, no Rest, no Peace For the Sufferer From Kidney Troubles.
