Another Tramp Robbery Another robbery was committed by tramps on board a wbst bound Lake Shore freight Friday- night Just this side of TSftporte. The robbers, three In number, were arrested when the train arrived at South Bend and gave their names as Peter Atof, James Dwyer and Michael (Jumbo) CoDnelly. The last named was known to South Bend police. The trio had held up and robbed seven other tramps in a box car and took their shoes and other wearing apparel. The victims of the robbers continued in the-car until South Bead was reached. At this point the three men were stopped and returned to Laportc. Tramps hardly know when they are safe from their own kind. May be Banning Yet. Chas. Groves, of Wakarusa, had just served an 11-days jail sentence at Goshen for public Intoxication. He was immediately rearrested on a malicious trespass charge. This was on Saturday, on Monday morning bail was furnished him. When he was sentenced the second time, the justice stated it would be to work on the stone yard, and it was thus that Groves was awaiting for transportation when a constable went to the jail to have the man released on the bail bond furnished. The constable told Groves that he would take him before the justice again, etc., before transporting him to Elkhart. In this way the officer thought to furnish him with agreeable surprise. At this writing it is not known whether he has enjoyed the surprise intended or not, for Groves had no sooner got onto the streets than he took to his heels, supposing that he was surprising the constable. So far as anybody knows hereabouts he is still going. lie will perhaps “kick” himself when he learns the true situation by which he obtained his liberty. Tried to Kill Kailrond Men. A dastardly attempt was made to assassinate 1-rako Shore Height conductof W. H. O’Brien and bralfeman Thos. Bropliy, at Whitings about 3 o'clock this morning says the Elkhart Review of Thursday lust. They were standing close together near the head end of train No. 70, which was on a side track when suddenly, without warning, a dozen or more Hashes, not more than a earlength from them, told from whence came the leaden hail that whistled about them. The trainmen had no mind to light an unseen, and by them, unnumbered enemy in the dark, and ran around to the north side of the train and back toward the station, some of the scoundrels following, them some rods amHtring us' they ran. Extra brakeman Chas. Hatcß,_\vho was near the caboose, heard at least two bullets whiz over his head, having carried alinost the full length of tin; train. He also heard an unseen man say: “We missed him.” He sought- a temporary hiding place. The trainmen could see men passing between them and the switch lights,, but the vicinity was too poorly lighted to make a search effectual. The Whiting authorities were notified, and the train proceeded eastward. This fore--1 noon the trainmen wore ordered ts) report at Whiting on No. 15, to identify, if possible, certain suspects that had been arrested there. The trainmen have no t 'theory to account for “tlie attack," liut it ( is recalled that O’Brien and Brophy were instrumental in the capture and conviction of James Conners and Wm. Cullaniy who were sentenced to 2j years in prison for breaking into a car containing United States bended goods. The attack may have been made by. “pajii" of the Convicts, for revenge. Rare Sport Walked Six Milts to Fish. Paralysis— Sleep Impossible—Doctors Powerless—A Cure Found. Jere. Hess, Bladensburg, Ohio, relates that he had a stroke of paralysis four years agb, secured temporary relief from use of galvanic battery applied three times day for four months, finally was able to hobble around, but so weak and debilitated that the slightest exertion or worry would prostrate him, bring on nervous pains and completely drive sleep away. While in this condition his son insisted in the use of Dr. Wheeler's Nerve Vitalizes. The use of a few bottles restored him to health. In conclusion, to illustrate his present health, he said that on the day previous he went fishing with the boys and walked about 6ix miles without fatigue.
