Shaffer & Brown are pushing arrangements toward the erection of their new business building on East Alain street. Why *iot try again, since the election is overP Keller, the picture man, from N&ppanee attended a spelling near here lately, and the way he stands in with the girls, fairly made us country boys turn green with envy. Verily, ’tis bet- ■ ter to be lucky than wise. We must acknowledge the corn—the Crystallizer correspondent got in several choice items that wo missed. However he has the inside track. Combine business with pleasure, you know. At Miss May Todd's entertainment last Friday evening so many of Napranee’s young folks wore there, that ive should not have been suprised to have seen even the editor and his d—l there. Sorry to say, however, there vas enough of the latter commodity there, but no editor. After services ut this place last Sunday. then were live more converts baptised, this making twenty-seven added by baptism. The rites were performed by Bev. Stockman. Meetings are going on at the U. B. Church, with a good attendance. - Ed Degoiier broke his leg last Sunday. The fracture was reduced by Dr. Lichty. School will close in a week from Friday and a gtand entertainment is expected. Mr. Holdeman is remodeling the dance hall and will move ihto the same in about two weeks.

ORDINANCE NO. 4. An Ordinance relating to penal offences and prescribing penalties for the violation of this ordinance ou any of the provisions thereof. SECTION 1. Be it ordumed by the Board of Trustees of the incorporate town of Napuanee, Elkhart county. State of Indiana. That all persons within the limits of said incorporate town, who not having visible means of maintaining themselves, and without employment, or shall be found idle, loitering or rambling about, or staying in groceries, stores, drinking saloons, houses or ill fame or houses of bud repute, gumoling houses, railroad depots, building arbors, booths, shops or cars, fire engiue houses, or be found tresspass-tig in the night upou private premises of another, or keepers or exhibitors of, or visits any gambling table or gambling house or fortune telling house, or who shall go aoout obtaining money or any thug of value, by claiming to be fortune tellers, or who shall disturb any public or private school or my lawful assemblage of inhabitants, lawfully gathered to gather for any legitimate purpose, or who shall use profaue, indeceut or lascivious language in any public place shall upon conviction, be tired in any sum not less than three dollars nor more than ten dollars. SECTION 3. No person within said incorporate town shall practice any game, trick, device or ether method with intent to cheat, defraud or in rny way to obtain any money or thing of value, with mt returning a lawful equivalent therefor, and in all cases shall it be unlawful tu use deceit to obtaiu any thiug of value. SECTION 8. It shall be unlawful for any per on in suidincorporate town to make any noise, di order, tumult or create any unnecessary alarr to the disturbance of the peace of the town, or to encourage, permit or aid in making or creatin'; ny disturbance, tumult or noise tube made t or about his, her or their premises or honse. SECTION 4. It shall be unlawful for any pet son to inUuinanly and uuuecessarily expose any di mb animal to cold or the inclemency of the we at er, within said town. SECTION 5. It shall be unlawful for any '■erson to appear m any public place or on any pit .lie street or alley, in a state of nudity, or make an indecent exposure of his or her person, or for iny male to appear in any public place in female a*'.ire or any female to appear in any public plat ein male attire in said town. SECTION 10. It shall be unlawful for an common prostitute to wander in, in or abc-.tany street, alley or public commons, or at any <ublic resort, or by signs, devices or any inducein nts to solicit intercourse, or in any manner behav in an indecent or lascivious manner. SECTION 11. It shall be unlawful for a|y per son to harbor, keep or allow on or r.bout their premises any strumpet, whore, or lewd wor an, or suffer or permit any snch strumpet, wh< re. or lewd woman to ply her vocation thereat, be nothing herein shall be construed to prohibit ar - per son from doing an act of charity, or in al ing in the reformation of any unfortunate person. SECTION IS. SECTION 13. It shall be unlawful for :py person to have in his possession or custody f iv pick lock key, crow-jack or other burglary tool or im-plemen-s with intent to break into, or fel< viously enter any store, shop, ware boase, barn booth, shed,coach-house, corn crib,grainery,bor house, dwelling bouse or railway car, or to carry pon his person any bludgeon, billy, gun,pistol or evolver with a felonious intent to break into and -nrgUrize any snch premises. SECTION 14. It shall be nnlawfni for iny person to frequent, visit, play at, or be an ir : uatc of, door keeper, owner, solicitor, a better, ? pimp, for, or of any honse, store, grocery or be 1 room, or any other public place where any and vices of any description for gambling, or any g mes for amusement for gain, are kept; or where nythlng of value is disposed of by chance, within he limits of said town. SECTION 15. It shall be unlawful for my person wantingly to injure, or cause to be injured, any property of another, or any public roperty, buildings, grounds, fences, or any fruit, hade, or ornamental trees; or the box or protectic i around the same, planted or growing in any rtr et, alley, or public grounds, within the limits of a- id town. SECTION 16. It shall be unlawful for any person to be found, or lodging in any h- übc, out bouse, building, car. or premises of knot.' sr, within the limits of the town, without the c <nsent of the person having control of the same. SECTION 17. It shall be unlawful to any person to fly a kite or to engage in auy spor or pastime or exercise likely to scare horses or -mbanss the passage of vehicles, or In any wav retard or Impeade the free use of any street or all y, within the limits of said town. It shall be unlawful 'ir any person to keep or leave open any cellar do r, grating, vault or opening, or any sidewalk, or suffer the same to be kept open, or suffer any t ’dewalk or passageway along their premises, in ea 1 incorporate town to become out of repair, or in safe for the free nse of the same, or to endaaf >r the life or limb of any person. SECTION 31. SECTION 33. It shall be unlawful for any person to encumber ar obstruct the sidewalk ou auj street or alley tvithiu said incorporate town to a greater distance than three (3) feet from the buildiug occupied for a store, shop, saloon, office, or waruroom, except in the neoessary removal of goods, wares and merchandise into, out of, or from such place of business; uor for a longer time than three hours, except by the leave of the Board of Trustees of said town; or build or maintain any fire in the rear ol any building within fifteen feet thereof, or to endanger the property of auother. Section 34. It shall be unlawful for any person to be found loitering at any public resort, de|H>t or depot grounds, or to be upon auy railroad track, or in anyway iuterfearing with any person in passing to and fro upon any platform of auy depot, or being iu any public place to the detriment of the public, unless such person shall be in the djscerrge of their legitimate duty. And any person having the care or control of any depot, railroads or place of resort, are hereby empowered to arrest without warrantany person violating this section and take the pers nso arrested before some justice of the peace having jurisdiction and chaige such person uuder oath of the violation of this section of the above ordinance. Section 35. It shall be unlawful for any person to throw any rubbish or par per into any street or on any sidewalk in said town, or to place, leave, or permit to placed or left, any wood or vehicle or obstruction on or in anv street or alley or in any manner to fill up or obstruct, or put any filthy matter iu any gutter or sewer or to make any excavation in any street, sidewalk or alley within said town, excepting when necessary for the improvement, repairs or betterment of their premises, without tbe consent of the Board of Trustees of said town. Section 36. It shall be unlawful for any person to occupy or use for his or her private use, or to erect or maintain any structure, stores or other obstruction on any street, alley or sidewalk or other public grounds of said town, without consent of the Board of Trustees of said town. Section 37. It shall be unlawful for any person to keep, harbor or suffer to run at large, any cross or vicious dog or bitch; within said incoperale town. Seotion 38. It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly bring into or within tho corporate limits, any horse, mare or mule, or other animal having glanders, or to hitch the same to any publio or private hitching post, rack or to water such glandeerd animal at any public or private watering place iu said town. Section 39. It shall be unlawful for any person or railroad company to run any engine or train at a greater rate of speed than eight miles an hour within the limits of said incorporate town. Section 40. It shall be unlawful for any person to unlawfully take and appropriate to his or her own use any property of another or to be found treaspassing iu any yard, garden or premises of another. Section 41. It shall be unlawful for any person to place or leave or cause or suffer to be placed or left any dead horse or any other dead animal within tbe limits of said incorporate town without being properly buried; or vvho shall SI ace any dead animal, offal mr putrid, ecaying or offensive matter into any ditchor stream within the limits of said town. And any person violating the provision of this section shall in addition to the penalties of this ordinaue shall be liable to said town for the cost and expenses of hurrying said animal or tbe removal of such tilth and twenty per cent, damages for the use of said town to be recovered m any court on complaint filed without relief or exemption. Section 42. It shall be unlawful for any person to go upon, into, or near at. any and welling house or premises of another and use any abusive or insulting or or profane or derisive language or epithet to, of, or concerning any occupant or inmate of such premises within said town. Section 43. It shall be unlawful for any person having any infectious or pestilential disease to be in any public place, school, church or assembly within the corporate limits of said town. Section 44. It shall be unlawful for any person to follow the vocation of a common beggar or to go from house to

house seeking aid or asking for food or raiment ex-etping by jierftiission of the Board of Trustees of said tow u. Section 45. It shall be unlawful for auy person to conduct or uiaiiage any theater, circus caravan, meuagerie. show or similar amusement without first obtaining a town license. Therefore such license shall be had on payment to the Town Clerk of the sum of teu dollars for any circus or menagerie and for theaters or other shows at the rate of iwo dollars per day and fifty cents Clerk's fees in each case. Aliy person violating the pro\isions of inis section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and tine in any snm not less lhan the amount of the license so required. Section 46. It shall be uulawful for any person to erect or mantain, place or continue or cause to be erected, mantained, placed or continued any private building, store, dwelling house, fence or construction hereafter to be put up projecting upon any public ground, str* et or alley or sidewalk in said incorporate town. Section 47. It shall be unlawful for j any person to erect, continue or mantain any nuisance to the injury ofiliej comfort or health of auy citizens of said j town or to the public of said towu in j general. Section 48. It shall be unlawful for I any person to keep or minium any t place or premises so as to become : nauseous, foul or offensive. Section 49. It shall be nnluwful for j any person to suffer or permit rubbish, j manure, filth or weeks to accumulate I in any street or alley adjacent to his or : her premises. Section 50. It shall be uulawful or any person to keep any stoek. swine, cattle, horses, mules or other animals upon or about their premises in a filthy condition so that the same shall become | offensive to any person or persons liv- i ing adjacent thereto within the limits j of said town. Section 51. It shall be unlawful for | any person to be engaged or found encouraging dog fighting or cock fighting in any public place within the limits of said town. Section 52. It shall bo unlawful for any person to exhibit any curiosity, monstrosity, panorama or other similar devices without first obtaining a license therefor. Such license may be had by paying to the Town Clerk the sum of one dollar per day and fifty cents additional for his fees. Section 53. It shall be unlawful for any person to engage iu peddling in said town without license, and such license may be obtained by paying to the Town Clerk the sum of two dollars per day for traveling on ft>ot and selling his wares, and three dollars per day for driving from place to place with a team and live dollars per day for selling goods at public outcry and fifty cents additionla in each case for Clerk’s fees. Provided, this section shall not be coustrued to prohibit selling home or domestic stocks or selling household goods at public or vendue sales. Section 54. Any person violating any section of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction fined in any sum not less than one dollar nor more than ten dollars excepting where in said ordinance the penalty is otherwise provided. Whereas an emergency exists it is ordered that the above ordinance be in full force and effect, from and after its passage and that the same be published for two consecutive weeks in the Nappanee News. Resolved, thst section 9, of ordinance No. 3, entitled as follows to wit: An ordinance to establish fire limits and promote security against fire anc to establish the office of the Fire Warden for the incorporate town of Nappanee, Indiana, which was passed by the Board of Trustees, of the incorporate town of Nappanee, lnd., and taking effect Feb. 18th, tBB9, be amended so as to read as follows, to wit: SECTIONS: That no person shall hereafter erect any building where onter wall or walls, or roof, shall consist of wood or other combustible material, nor maintain any snch building hereafter erected within the limits of the incorporate town of Nappanee, within the following limits, beginning tor the same at a point commencing at the corner where Walnut and Elm streets cross at the crossing of said street, running thence south to the south side of B. A O. R. R. grounds, thence westerly to a point south of the center of Clark street, thence north to the center of Walnut street, thence east to the place of beginning, including all the territory within said limits.
