I BOURBOK CORRESPONDENCE.
- Bourbon, March 31, 1870. F'js. Ripubuoah : There are a Tew things in the ' Bourbon Heins" or the last Democrat, (hat require a little notice and with your permiation, w will jjWe them a part, at least, of what tbey need. That is, comb out the tangles if we can, without comblog them ail away. We like to hare Bourbon reported in our weekly joarcal ; but we want to be represented as we are, and not in a false light. The truth is bad enough h.r the best, anywhere; and Bourbon is n exception. The article referred to, is faulty, both in apint. and Mttar, grave subjects and moral reform of this nature, should not be trcaltd with leyity, as that article treats the temperance movement in this place. No subject should even be misrepresented. But tbat article is a tissue of misrepresentation In all that relates to temperance, and its associations. We are very sorry that Dan should take such a course; as we have always looked upon him, as a clever fellow. And we cannot account for his conduct but bA the fact, that when a man "imbibe t," he often gets too much steam on, and must let It of, or burst, and in his haste for relief, can't always be particular bow it is done- However, it is always noisy and sometimes dangerous. But Dau will be all right again, when his steam Is off; if he don t burst his boiler, or injure his machinery, by too much motion, while under the pressure Now the main facts are: That lager beer and whiskey, ruu riot, in this place, and the drinkers, and venders, of these lliiogs are so bold, and defiant, that their conduct is unbearable, and the sober, sensible, part of the com munity, are waking up to a sense of the danger in which we are placed by these circumstances, and are casting about for a remedy. We have borne these evils in silence, until forbearance has ceased to be a virtue. And now "the die iscasi," and we are resolved to see, whether the sober, civil, citizens of the place, have not some rights, w hich saloon keeper and their partizans are bound to respect, and for the protection of which, laws are made, and courts established. The men engnged in this reform, are not of the impulsive, excilcnble, kind. But, in the main, are sober, thoughtful, and firm. There may be exceptions, but in the muin, they are the men, who give moral character to the - --t - - usm a sv P1", and they will not be trifled with, and those who think to try it, had belter "stand from under or get off the track.'' We will not now point out the particular errors to call them by no worse name l a tl l..,i . ill :. :r i, .. . . It was really all wrong, except tust Bour-! , .. rr., . bon does i ced reconstructing. This is true, and we mean to reconstruct it and wc Lope to w ork Dan ia. Citjzn. FROM BOURBCK. Bourbon ccntinues to be in a stale of extreme excitement, caused by a continual stream of burglaries committed almost every night. Indeed n seems about time that the citizens form in a band for self preservation- Ah throw in a dime apiece, and buy a hemp rope, for future use. On !ast Sunday night the grtcery of John Conrick was entered through the back way, and robbed of groceries to ibe amount of $25 or a50 consisting of sugar, tea, tobacco, raisecs, knives, candies, Ac. It is pretty well known who the derperadoes or devils incarnate are, and they are closely waicbed Great excitement prevails among the good tempi an, and the wbiskeyites. The good templars are determined tbat the saloon keepers shall obey tbe laws, and tbe sa loon keepers wish to be let alone, as thei father. Jeff Davis or tbe Devil, would have tbe people do. OUR WASHINGTON LETTER. Washingtos, D. C. March 28, 1870. Since the vernal equinox we have had sunshiny weather, but the gentle zephyts bring no healing on their wings, for they lift such quanthes of dust from onr i.lpaved avenues that, as it rises in dense clouds, even the Goddess of Liberty on the dome of the Cspilol is obscured from the view of the half-suffccaling pedestrian below. It is to be hoped our law g'.vcrs in Congress may experience its discomforts tl least to a degree that will induce them Isj take up and pass those sundry little bills for street paving and improvement that now quietly slumber with the Committee on the District of Columbia. A ssgacious old blind man of this city, claims to recognize the originality ot each dust cloud as it sweeps along by the sen sation it produces on his pslate and dilatory organs. "There," snd he, as the Sahara like blast came blowing up toward the Treasury. "That's from Hnrvey s for I can taste the oyster shells, and that,', he said, half-strangling, "is Twelfth street sure enough, they opened a sewer theie lately." Still another dusty cloud, emulous and dark, came sailing up the Avenue snd ducking like an ostrich he sput-
tured forth "The National Hack stand: D n their manure. To paraphrase on Burns, we might say to ourdilitant Congressmen O wad some pow'r the giltic gie Vm, fo see our streets as blind men see cm.
