FEARLESS and FREE ! D. T. v. 3f t'im.i.iis, , ICIIOI.S, I Edlton. THURSDAY, MARCH 3d, 1870. Te man ;rho ships small boys to " parts unknown," La- rcturued from Omali .. It is rcDorted that Wlreeler gives his one hundred dollars "Ais year to the Sunday school conducted by P. S. Allsmsn fc Co., on Sundsy afternoons. Kep watch of houses that con tain "letters" of importance, for the nan who engage a roort ai the hotel and goes to bed at three o clock in the morning has returned from 31 ich i gar.. The abortion organ down street threatens to make a skunk of itseK and besmear Um reputation of all persons who cross its path. We shall Gghtthe H ty animal lace foremost, and ta'ü its Lead off. It makes a dreadful Blench to touch the "cuss," but it won't last long, and when we have finished the job the disgusting nuisance will be "stone dead." TnE LaPorte Argus insinuates that the public ser.timent agaiust Wheeler and Yinr.ll is on account of their politics. We poiatedlv deny the insinuation. The revolting orime for which Wheeler and Vinall are indicted is not a political ques tion. It is simply a question of ue cency and good morals. Nothing of a political character is attached to the case beyond the effort of ttie PIjrjsouh Democrat to commit tlie Democratic arty of this county to tie support of tLe accused parties.
Tnr heeler organ last week gave ; marks out, or he must "bite the dust " those who are diuatinficd with lUjAvist multuuis. however, would course in the Sue Boaver case a Tery 1 rejoice .f the wretch would leave

Why not take down the Democratic State ticket and hoist the names of Wheel er and Vinall, P. S Alleman, Hu;h r C Rose, with Pat Hawkins on the tail wd lo I :ing up the rear of "the delightfiils.' That would be the con si-tent and honorable course to take ! in the circumstances. THE DE 3 LINE OF GOLD. The positive refusal of Cono-rtas to infiftte the currency, arid the late decision of the Supreme Court of the United S;ates,l'.ave set gold tuml ling down hill. There seems to be no doubt thm we are safely and rapidlv Ktarnlttg to specie payme'its. As gold now declines the 8200,000,000 mat are held and hoarded will be a losing cjm modity unless st afloat ia the conntry and invested and used. This will aa. ..a no doubt sooi! be the case, and the prospects now are that m gr .backs j i . a a aa I L-ecome m par, or neany so, we uau soon have more money in the coun try than we know what to do with. The financial aflairs of the countrv ar. moving ei.ltndully, lad at Con-, press seems detei mined to let the ünances alone, we eball certainly come out very soon on a sure and eafe ground. Suspended enterprises of every kind will move forward and repudiation will be heard of no more The linuiicial administration of affrirs in both this State and tbe Geu eral Government at Washington is a brilliant success. THE HON ANSON BURLINGAME Without the least previous warn ing the Atlantic cable last week brought the news of the sudden death of the Hon. Anson Burlingame. He died at St Petersburg. The position he held M Chinese Ambassador was one of peculiar usefulness, and a remarkable honor to am American citizen. By his effort treaties have been secured with China that promise the gradual and voluntary eufran chisement from the exclusiveness and seclusiveness which for cen lurries have barred that mighty empire from all practical intercourse with other nations. lhe whole civilize 1 world regrets his death, and the officials of China deplore bis loss with great sorrow. The life of one whose career has been so ustful and so brilliant, cannot be rehearsed in a short article. Though a native of the State of ISew York, his youth was spent on the western frontier, and he laid the foundation of his education at the University of Michigan. Af terwards he removed to Massachusetts and served in the State Senate. He was then elected and re elected twice a member of Congress, filling every position with honor. He was minister to Austria, and then to China. His services as minister to China were most valuable. But he has fallen, and his atmory remains bright with fadeless thonghts of one everywhere loed and honored.
The Two Innocents.
They Return in the Night, Yisall ttone to Canada. Wheeler at Home. The $50,000 BMI Accepted. The Circuit Court closed its ses sion last week. The warrants issued for the arrest of Wheeler and Vinall were returnable at this term of court. They were returned by our enter prising sheriff with the statemeut that the indicted parties could not be found. They were fugitives from justice declaring their innocence. It becama the duty of the clerk, imme diately after the close of the court, to issuft warrants for the arrest or Wheeler and Vinall, and to arrest them if possible. In the case of Wheeler 850,000 bail is allowed. Iu the case of Vinall no bail is, or can be allowed. Wheeler and Vinall came EatO town during the night of Wednesday of last week. They ca me-from Chicago. During Friday night Vinall left town, and it it reported that he Has gone to Cainaa, never to return. If Le aLould-retui i and not bo arrested and put iu ail for safe keepxuc for trial, tLe public will know where the blame lies. It is annoimc ed that W heeler lias given the necessary bail, and the first of this week the old villain, without a blush, put iu a public appearance on our treets He knows t ie plact; he lives in, and the power o 'the "clique" The public will tolerate the oi l villain, under pio.est, if tue law is properly com 1 lied with; but mark this: le ci!l not be alioirtd to go free in defiance of law, he muit walk the track- the I lair Plymouth eternally, ami forever stayin "parts unknown." Evans, of Marion, and Barnabas C. Hobbs, present iocumbents, were ail renominated by acclamation, there being no opposition. TL is was an endorsement well deserved and rightly bestowed upon faithful public officers. Three of lhe present Supreme Judges, J. T. Elliott, of Henry. Chas A. Ray, of Marion, and R. C. Giegory, of Tippecanoe, were also renominated. This renominstion was a fit and proper expression of the public apprsciation of the services of those who have so honored the bench of the Supreme Court of this State. The only contest that existed in the Convention was with reference to the nomination of the Judge for the first District, snd the nomination of a Treasurer for tbe State. After s complimentary vote, Judge A. L. Osborn, sf LaPorte, was nominated bv a mag liQcent vote on the second ballot. It is not necessary to sa' anything in this part of the State in praise of Judge Osborn. He stands acknowledged as one of the ablest snd purest judges in tbe State, snd he received ths nomination unsought, and while quietly holding court in t lis place. The noble Robert H. '. lilroy, of Carroll, received the nomination for Treasurer of State, on the fourth ballot, and the name of Gen. Milroy gives a glory to the ticket as we remember the old "Grey Eagle" of the "Bloody Ninth." The Republican party throughout tbe State is perfectly satisfied with the platform and ticket, and the campaign will pushed forwsrd with the vigot A'ad determination of those who fight for no dead issues and falsa principles, but for the realiza tion of principles the noblest and the highest
A FEW WORDS MORE We did not intend to refer to the Plymouh Democrat at all, or have anything more to say about Wheeler and Vinall and their "cliqnc," but the position taken by the Democrat week before last and last week Las made it necessary that we continue the 8iiLject and pay some attention to the defense of Wheeler and Vinall by the Democrat, and its low, vulgar, slimy thrusts at those in this community, Republicans and Democrats, who do not see fit to endorse soduc tion, abortion and murder. We spoke plainly last week, but the Indianian gave the Democrat such a complete castigatiou that it did not leave the Wheeler and Vinall organ with tLe least possible strength to strike back. It can make no reply. It can only sputter and blubber in impotent rage. TLe Indiaman gives quite a number of advlitional facts in the caa concerning Wheeler, and concerning P. S. Allemaa. It takes up the article in the Democrat of wek before last on M Public Opinion " and ahiv ers it into atoms by a clear, keen, pointed and masterly review of the testimony and surrounding circum
stances in the case. The Democrat cannot answer tLe In-iianian. or make even a decent attempt to do so. TLe opinio ns f tLe press gener rally are indeed in perfect har.no iiy with tLe course taken bv tLe Re ITBLICAN The Warsaw Union, the j . . , , Uemccratic paper in Warsaw, had a ! fair anl correct article written for pilblicction, but ivss persuaded not to publish it. The Indianinn was I offercl a sum of money to suppress its first article on the Sue Beaver case eveu if consent would be given to suppress the na.oes of the guil ty parties. The Elkhart tieview s:iys ; tatet the evidence elicitotl before the Coroner's jury points conclusively to A. L. Wlieeier, and that the desuicable villain deserves Ute most joudign punishment. The South Bend Sational Union, a Democratic i Samper, says Wheeler has the reputation of lla;n. We hope that the Democrat will realize that it is s ipportetl to s great extent i by the "public pap," for which all the people are taxed. Some return is expected of some benefit to the town and county. We hope tLat the castigation it is getting on all sides will have the effect of teaching the soft-headed voting man with 'trreat ex,iectation3 ail(, ,,:fl .hipk ,ir , . , ' sprawiirf, dirt3, newspaper failure assistant, and all the members of the (Wheeler cliqun," litlle decencv and a .., if .ud .thing be po.ibl, at tbe ca of tbo.e wbo are so corrupt as to declare that they "do not care a damn for public Toe Democrat ardeavors to apologize f"r the statemeut publicly and repeatedly made by A L. Wheeler that he is "opposed to the further spread of the gospel," by insinuating that Wheeler last year gave a hundred dollars toward the "support" of a certain clergj-man in town, and subscribed a thousand dollars for a proposed new church. If Wheeler ever did snything for the public good we are glad to hear it, but we know that the clergyman re ferred to nevtr had any financial transactions with Wheeler, whatever. We do not believe Wheeler gave the hundred dollars as stated by the Democrat, or that he has paid a cent on his subscription for a proposed new church, or that he ever intended to, or ever will. We will give the devil his due if we can really find out that he ever did a good thing intentionally, and from a right motive. ADDITIONAL FAG TSWe take the following additional facts, is ths Sue Beaver case, from tbe Warsaw Indian ian of Isst week : "Duriug tbe county fair held in that city io October last, A. L. Wheeler visited that place and in company with Sue Beaver and Lizzie Riebhart visited tbe fairgrounds. Wheeler and Sue Beaver left tbe fair grounds and returned to the residence sf the two ladies named. They were seen to enter tbe house together, close tbe door, pat down the window blinds, and there remain for some time. This was about four months previous to the time the abortion was produced upon her. Though a poor girl she hid In her possession costly dress es purchased for her, as she said, bv a friend of bsrs, at Field, Leiter dr CoV, Chicago. She was at all times amply applied with money. 44 When thi Ytrdjct of thf Cereaex's jory
became known, P. S. Alleman of Plyni-

Her friend ha Inj ilieir suspicions aroused, aud she lcing absent, sent for her to come basM Site did no, and rainalniug a few days was spirited away, TLe house where Sue Bsaver and Lizzie Riehhart resided was broken opea and I he trunk belonuinj: to Sue Beaver was rifled of its contems. The nigh this took placo P 8. Alleman npsged s mora a. one of the hot sin and ne.er occupied it untrl three o'clock in the morning. He was eo"aking around watchirt for aomebody that owed him something he aaid. After the appointment of an administrator on the estate of Sue Beaver an examination oi her property disclosed that the rascal who had rifled her trunk had not taken away Ti&iting cards of A. L- Wheeler " The loliowing letter was also found at the late residence occupied by the parties named. It shows that Llule Riebhart knows more about matters than A. L. Wheeler fc Co. would like her to tell. It also ahowa the st of mind ot the poor Sirl under ths th e .ts, bribes, and rompulsatory flight forced upon her by the villains who have sent her to "patts ua known "WaiW, SxJtMT, Feh. 8," 1S70.
