THU1WÜAV, JULY IT,, I8C0. "HOW 4RK THE MIUIITY I tl.J i ! ' Democracy, froji two (ircck words demos, ieoiIe, ami Irutto, to rule, means a government of the poople by the people. Tl.e clearest statement of true Democracy is to be found iu the Declaration of Inde peiuleuce, in the words of the rreat "Apostle of D nioeracy,' Thomas JefTerson : "We hold these truths to le self-evident, that all men ore created equal ; that they arc endow CM. by their Creator with certain in alienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit o happiness; that to -scenne thc-e rights, governments are instituted among mem, deriving tlioir jutt pow era from the consent ef the govern cUV In mar.- of the State consti tuUons these principles were stil more miiy developed. The Hill of Rights prefixed tn Virginia s Coiiati ... : r "ro . .. tnwiwu oi to sa s : "silt men arc by nature equally free am! independ cnt" That by the phrase "a7 men," blacks were Include.! with the whites is cridinccd by the fact that black men were voters in many Democratic States, as North Carolina, for in stance. These grand principles of liberty and equality emblazoned on its banner, the Democratic party oecnrue the party m the people, grand, powerful, invincible. Tnder its inspirations millions fled the des potisms of the old world and enrolled themselves as Democrats in the new. With their aid given fur a good purpose, the Whig and all other opposition fell before the all con quering Democracy. HIatk slavery meanwhile became profitable, and slaveholders got control of the great party with its power in their in tcrests. They made Democracy say slavery was right, and whatever Democracy said was the law and gos pel in all the land. - During scores of years the partv rulcd almost supreme. The Governors and Presidents were nearly all Democrats. The public opposition of the Whigs ceased, and abolitionists, under nil names were a stench in the upturned nostrils of a vast majority of the people. Abolitionists were tarred and feathered, imprisoned, killed. Four millions of peepl ''created equal," and '-by nature equally free and iiukpend cnt,"' with all other men and women, were guarded in abject slavery by bloodhounds, fiercer thin the dogs of war. Since then what: The Democratic party haa lost slavery, has löBt ollice, has lost power, has lost the "lost cause," and everything else except Marshall county, and only retains this because there is no election near at hand. It denounc ed the Union side tf the war, up held Democratic Vailandigham and lirick Pomcroy while organizing rebel aid north to defeat the opera tions of Republican Frank Blair and Rosecrans against rebels South. Pious Democrats while depositing their ballots hissed through their teeth a "d n the nigger.'' Since then they have voted for this same ' nigger" loving, Democratic hating. Frank Blair, against that purest a id best of men Schuyler Colfax, for V itc President. Now what ? Iu the great State of Ohio, where Vailandigham has his home, the Democracy have thrown aside Vul , aud Pugh, and Caroy, ami Thurau, and even Greenback Pendleton, and have picked up the cast awaj-, "Old Rosy," and arc trying to run him for Governor. They now run the nir-n for Governor, past whose vie torious battle fce! I, (Stone River,) Vailandigham, their late candidate for the same oiticc was conveyed, a humiliated prisoner for opposing the cause Rosecrana fought for ! Our word for it, Iteforc the next general election the leaders of the Democracy will become sfceet on the negro, aud all will ask him to vote with and for them. Indeed, how are the mighty fallen J H Ilcll In Indiana Mr. A. Has a Gcrtmn lalx.rer, who, in plow ing a cornfield, Btrotk the npjer crust of Eomelhing very much like the iuftrn .l re gions. A sutlocating odor was Lrslcmit ted, followed by a dense volume of smoke and, according to the (Jeriuan's statement. the stench was several degrees above the flavor of the Illinois .Street gutter. A sheet of name soon burst iiom this terrible volcano, and a great conflagration was immi ncnt lor a time, but the flames were final ly subdued by a few shovels fall of earth totted in the mouth of tho crater. The lava thrown out looked very much like Castiic soap only it was not so highly perfumed. On ihc contrary, it was exceed Insrly offensive. It ignites easily, acd it bums as freely as brimstone. The German was badly frightened, and after VR-wlninthc scene in utter bewilder ment for a time, ejaculated, "Veil, dat is hell!" We understand that Professor Cox wll i xflmine the ground, aod it it should prove to bc an entrance to the Infernal regions. he will send for Iarson IJrownlow to look further Into it. 1 he people of Lafayette a -c greatly alarmed, and already it is sidd that a roaring noise can ie heard under neath that doomed city.
